I searched first and did not locate a thread for this. Does anyone know where I can get a trailer hitch with a 2 inch square receiver for a 92 Sambar?
My 88 Acty has what appears to be a custom fabbed hitch receiver. Behind the bumper is a 2" x 4" tube steel member with the 2" receiver housing welded to it. It bolts nicely to the bumper and the bed. Let me know if you would like some pics. I could take some and post tomorrow.
I am not familiar with the Sambar engine / fold down panel but I 'll post some pics of my Acty, may spark some ideas for you
Previous owners who installed the hitch receiver didn't care about originality but the hitch does work great
Thank you for posting the pics .With the fold down engine door, I'm thinking a trailer hitch is not possible.
rear hitch is extremely hard to mount on Sambar, i think its been done but it would be tough because all thats there is the rear engine cover
i’m trying to attempt this on my Sambar as mine does not have a rear engine access door. It has a campervan body kit which means i pretty much have to remove the whole rear bumper to do a service. i’m sure there’s a way to get this done
You might be able to rig a receiver on both frame rails, that the hitch assembly could slide into. That would allow the hitch to be easily dismounted for access to the engine. Look at picture of some of the receiver hitch setups for big trucks, amazon will have a bunch, so will Google image searches. They have a cross tube, with the 2-inch receiver welded to it, and plates which mount to the frame. You should be able to fabricate something which would be similar, but with additional receivers on both sides attached to the frame.
That rear one looks promising but I have no firsthand experience with it. https://www.goldstarparts.com/category-s/2092.htm
I made my own and it works great. The engine cover doesn't go all the way down, but enough to check/add oil and change plugs. The "General" | Japanese Mini Truck Forum (minitrucktalk.com)
