So i impulse bought a great little van a few yrs back, my back yard mechanic said store it here and i will get to it. and we know how that works out... so here i am looking for someone in Edmonton area who works on a center mount engine. (micro trucks are a dime a doz, but not the vans. ) it's a turbo engine and worth saving from what i understand. i'm looking ( the google has failed me) for a place / person who can service/ order parts etc in the edmonton area preferably. but i'm wondering if it would be easier to just import another engine direct fro japan? - i have an electronic copy of the parts/ service manual in english - i am a stereotypical broad when it comes to engines. i don't have the know how or the will to rebuild it myself. - compression test on the 3 cylinders ; 130/130/100. not good. even i know that. i had been hoping that this would be the summer to get this baby on the road. sick of looking at in in the barn. ;(
I wish you a bit closer I would jump all over that rebuild. However if you think you could trailer down to Radium Hot springs BC. I'll fix her for you. Or my advise. drop the engine and bring to a mechanic shop. Or I have a friend in Spruce grove who is a real mechanic that would probably take on the rebuild. He's to busy to drop the engine for you but I bet he would work on the rebuild at home for you. Tony
I wonder... I mean those numbers aren't awful... Strongly suggest pulling the valve cover and setting the rocker clearances, then checking compression again. The F6A is known to 'tighten up' over time. Meaning, the valve clearances can get too narrow, leading to valves that don't close completely. Stupid short rockers on the exhaust side, a little tricky. Unless there's some other indication that the engine needs an overhaul?
I have a K6a but I understand the F6a valve adjustment is kind of "touchy" and critical to decent running. Fred
not touchy at all if your patient. I just did mine in Dec 2015. I forget the clearance .007 I think. anyway it took a while but it was worth the effort. started better than ever.
Hey Troy I just picked up a 90 Suzuki every that won't start. It looks like it needs a new turbo charger and having a heck of a time locating one. The every is a 660cc F6A any chance you can point me in a right detection. Cheers
Might give these people a shot - www.carepo.jp/eng/ &/or beforward.jp for used and megazip for new. Fred
There are some turbos showing up on eBay. Not sure if they would have an exact match, but it doesn’t hurt to look. If you can identify the manufacturer and model of the turbo, it is easier to find them that way, than trying to match them by vehicle, as the same turbo is frequently used for multiple applications.
Yes they did and they even made it in a Turbo! A Member here has done it! The Arctic Cat 660 is 80 hp Stock! and the Tubo is 125!
