The first order of business for me (once I cleared up a few problems) was to put a trailer hitch on my new (to me) Carry. As with most of my projects, the design was based on what I had available in my scrap pile. In this case, it was a length of 2" water pipe, some 3/4" rod, 5/8"x2" bar stock, and some old forged eye bolts. I did have to buy a 2" square hitch socket at NAPA. I can't wait to start launching boats!
Lookin good. "As with most of my projects, the design was based on what I had available in my scrap pile" I think most of us think in the same general way. Most of what I do is based on the KISS principle too. Fred
That's a nice bumper build. And unlike a lot of the homemade ones I've seen I like that it doesn't block the tag and spare tire acess. If I had any skill at weldung I would've tried to copy your design. Instead I found this decently priced bolt-on bumper from a supplier on e-bay in Quebec. https://m.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-CARRY...%3A65a8455c15f0aa415d643a71fffc4269%7Ciid%3A4
How did you mount it to the frame. Looks like there are plates there and were possibly bolted on back to front? I have a nice bumper built and I need to build some mounts. Looking for the best way to mount to the frame and still get enough support in case of side pulling on the bumper, lets say someone is pulling me out of a hole etc.
It's pretty smart how these mount. There's a tubular insert that slides in the hole above the shackle for the leaf spring then a single 3/4" bolt on each side using the existing holes in that same piece. I had to drill them out a little. Feels pretty solid.
Im going a bit farther with my next one. I plan on 2" angle on top of the frame and come out the tail light holes then a length of 6" channel with a 90 deg return on each side!
