Finally got out on Green Bay for a little ice fishing and test ride on my new tracks. Everything worked out perfect. I also made a customs bed cover to keep my gear dry. I incorporated straps to lift the cover and keep rain & snow from collecting.
Nice ride. Like a the camo and tracks. How thick is the ice where truck is sitting? You ever second guess driving out here?
We have about 20" of ice on green bay now. We don't start driving on the ice until we get 12" of solid ice.
OK the side bed flip out ice shanty is finally done. Complete with LED lights. The tent was modified from a existing clam X4 tent with some custom mods.... Let me know what you think..
Wow very nice! I was wanting to do the same thing on my truck. Did you use all the Clam pipes and hardware ? What did you do for the seats ? And did you fabricate the anti rotation brackets for the tracks?
Hey Kent, Yes I used the clam tubes and added length to one set so it will reach the ground. I also changed the pin locks so I can stack the folded tubes in the back side of the bed for a neat fit. I also made a bed cover so it sheds snow when the tent is not deployed. For seating I use 2 of the Cabela's deer hunting spinning chairs. Unbelievable comfort and light weight. Yes I fabricated both front and rear anti rotation brackets for the Camoplast tracks.
I started out in the same direction that you ended up . But my Voyager ice shelter was not big enough. The 4 man tent is definitely the way to go. This is what I ended up doing at least for this year. Did you come off the frame or the axel for the rear anti rotation brackets? Thanks for the info. You have a great looking ice fishing truck!
Hey Kent, I built anti rotation brackets for the rear axel's. I think the Clam Tent was an X4 and it fit almost perfect. The parts I cut away were used for a drop skirt for the inside from side gate to the ground. I'm building another ice van this year and plan to have a pop out tent from the rear lift gate. I guess that's what you do in Wisconsin when you have 4 months of ice and run a cut and sew Marine canvas business. Kinda like building a turbo from a snowmobile on a 660 when you live in Iowa.... Good luck this winter and be safe on the ice... Jon
Yep your right about doing something in the winter ! I did the same with my anti rotation brackets , but the off the back axel. The reason I asked I had talked to a guy at camoplast and he told me that I had to hook to the frame. Not sure why he thought I needed to drop something down almost 2 ft to hook into. Thanks Tight Lines !!
