    thanks

I will try State Farm. I was turned down by GEICO and Farm Bureau.

I tried State Farm in Summerville, GA. They will not insure my truck,a Mazda Scrum.

Right now I am working with my Allstate Insurance gal she just quoted me $180.00 a yr.
This coverage is almost as good as my Toyota Tundra converage.

    Full Coverage

I just got full coverage through State Farm for $146.00 per Year. $500.00 deductible. Of course this is registered as an ATV/UTV. Which is what I am using it for. Mine is not set up tire wise to run on pavement. :)

P.S. I live in a rural part of AZ which makes a big difference with the insurance companies. Its all about the zipcode!

I went to 11 different underwriters before finding insurance today.

In a nutshell, State Farm in Fla. is not yet writing these, neither is Progressive, Geico, Nationwide, Allstate or Farm Bureau. Farm Bureau would insure the mini-truck as a farm vehicle via endorsement to my homeowners policy, but that would not get me the required insurance (mainly, PIP) to register the truck.

From another thread on this site, one of my agents tried Foremost Insurance (which they also broker). Foremost indicated that they would insure the truck, like Farm Bureau, with coverage for "road crossings." They do not have a program for on-road insurance for these trucks (i.e., PIP and property damage and bodily injury).

So, finally, one of the agents searching on "The Great Quest" found that Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois would insure the truck as a vehicle. The cost was $254 for 6 months, with 10k property damage (state minimum) and 10k PIP benefits (state minimum). They would not let me delete bodily injury coverage of 10k, even though it is technically not required by the State of Florida.

Collectively, between me and 3 different insurance agencies with whom I have a relationship, the only reason we could think of for the lack of underwriting is that it is very new in Florida for these trucks to be insured as on-road vehicles. The change in law was effective July 1, 2009. I expect other big insurers to come on-board later. As an aside, if I wanted to insure the truck as an ATV/UTV and not an on-road vehicle, it would have been very cheap -- in line with the quotes posted above.

God willing, I'll get this thing titled and registered tomorrow now that I've procured insurance coverage. Thank you Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois!

    VIN vs Chassis # Help

    Cynical,

What did you do about your VIN (or lack of) when dealing with the insurance company? On my mits, I just have the 11-digit model # (U15DQHPDL2M) or the 12-digit chassis # stamped under the drivers seat (U00TAU003053).

All the computers (Ins. Co. and DMV) want to see a 17-digit VIN. Every road near my house is posted 35mph and I was wanting to do the registration prior to 01 Sep when all the DMV services double in price here in Florida:eek:.

If you or any one else has dealt with the VIN issue please let me know. Thanks and later........slim

By the way mine is a U.S. version Mitsubishi Mighty Mits LHD 4WD Dump body

I used the serial # (U62T-010284), and I see on the insurance paperwork they zeroed it out to look like this: U62T0102840000000

The Okaloosa Tax Collector didn't have any trouble -- took like 5 minutes since I had bill of sale with me along with Form 82040 (from http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/forms/BTR/Milpak/82040.pdf ). The title has the vin no. exactly as I gave it to them: U62T-010284. No extra digits. The FRVIS (or whatever -- Florida Real Time Vehicle Information System used to register vehicles) system has apparently been modified to accept less than 17 digits.

We have similar trucks, except mine is RHD.

    Cynical,

Thanks for the link to the form. I didn't have any luck at the Calhoun Co. Tax collectors office ystdy. I'm the first one that's tried to register one at their office. Every time they have questions, they call the DMV help? desk in Tallahassee they get a different person/answer. Hell, I had to take a copy of the Bill to them (that allows the Minis to be registered) before they even knew what I was talking about.

I will fill out the form and try again. It's not a big rush now, I was just trying to save a few $$'s before the DMV price hikes. I'm still driving it on the county roads here. The Co Boy's don't have a problem with it anyway.

I'm glad everything worked out for you, enjoy your ride and Thanks for your help..........later, slim

    Just got hosed on insurance

GEICO just insured my 97 carry. Minimum liability cost more that my 2009 motorhome/RV with full replacement coverage and all the bells and whistles insurance. Now that is crazy right there brother:frustration:
You look at these two pictures and compare.

BUT, I'm covered while the search continues for reasonable cost insurance.;)

By the way, my Suki is painted kakai now and has fender flares front and rear and new wheels, tires, bumpers and lowered 2 inches from its raised 8 inches.

    Oscar,
Two owners ago lifted the truck 8 inches. I've since lowered to a 6 inch lift. :p I am close to being satisfied with my other modifications to post some pictures. :pop: Not quite close enough though. Front coil springs should be here this week as well as shocks for the rear. I am totally going over front steering/suspension components--then maybe some fresh photos.

  18. Insurance.

I'm reopening an old thread, sorry.

I got a quote from Geico, covering my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 1993 Suzuki Carry, $205.10 for six months. The Jeep by itself was $134.50.

do they know what your suzuki carry is?

  20. Carry

That was kind of funny. When I told the girl what it was, she said that she had to look it up to see what it was and what it looked like. She said it was cute.

How did you get geico to insure it? Everything I have is through them but they say they can't insure it....what did you use for the vin? Thank you in advance

My 1992 Carry is insured as a 1992 Suzuki Swift 2dr hatchback, but with the proper matching VIN for the truck through State Farm in NY. I just brought the paperwork to the office and the nice girl that I always put through hell did it for me. I guess I'm not the only person to insure one of them through them and that is what they do for them. Mine's registered and insured for the road. Insurance is $68 per month.

  26. Every time I log into the Geico phone app, it complains that the VIN is wrong. It took me many month, jumping through hoops for the tag agency to get everything sorted. My VIN is the chassis serial number with "XXXXXX" added to the end. For me, working with Geico was easier than working with the local tag office.

I bought mine from Akron, CO where you can't legally liscense them, so I did not have a title or certificate of import or w/e, but luckily there was a caveat that if it was purchased back before 09' all that was needed was a bill of sale and an affidavit. As I recall the county office here in Red Willow county, Ne just added zeros to the end of the number to make it 17 digits. Surprisingly that was the easy part as that was more than a year ago and I still haven't found insurance without changing policies on everything and it costing more for liability than my Duramax is for full coverage. I have called Geico a couple of times and they are like well that model isn't in our data base....etc... What's teh geico coverage cost if you don't mind me asking?

  28. Well, I can't say exactly what it costs to insure the truck, but I can say that for basic coverage on a 1995 Grand Cherokee and the truck (registered as a 1993 Mazda Scrum), I pay $248.90 for six months.

I just called up GEICO's quote line and got my Subaru Sambar liability insured for about 150$ per year. This is in North Carolina within a big city. Only ran into issue with the VIN being too short but the agent I was speaking with had run into this before and knew how to bypass their system to let me get it insured! :)

Hey Nepegg89, how did you do that, all the people i talk to from GEICO are terrible, all i want to do is drive this thing to work. did you add XXX at the end of the vin to make it 17 characters? or 0's?
