Hey guys I'm new to these Japanese mini utility vehicles, but I am a diesel technician. I'm having an issue with this utility truck of ours. It's a 660 3 cylinder carbureted engine. We put a new headgasket in thinking that was our problem, but long story short we are still having the same issue. When it's cold it starts and runs good. Once it warms up it dies and cannot not get it to restart until you wait for it to cool down. We hold the throttle pedal to the floor and it wants to fire off but will not stay running. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

  2. Sounds a little like vapor lock, a weak fuel pump or regulator? I've also seen coils do that on other vehicles.

Running the engine to warm it up here, sorry it took so long to reply, my roommate and I have been busy as everyone is busy I suppose. The coil sits in the compartment below the left side seat is it really possible for that to get hot even if it's not close to the engine. Gonna hook up a spark tester when it dies here and hopefully it's the problem...

Would a misplaced vacuum line cause it to die when at operating temperature, if so is thereally a good diagram out there one could look at??

    Thanks for the help

Has good strong spark when it dies, once you put it in 4hi or 4lo it dies and does not restart.

You might want to change the distributor cap. I had the same issue and after many parts swaps it ended up being cap. I also replaced the coil.

This is definitely an overheating issue and most likely a vapor lock. You might want to check the fuel lines and ensure that they are not close to the exhaust and such. Simply bending them could help. Also check for loose lines which could expand when heated.

I don't know if at this point a vent is needed, but if this persists even after trying fixing the lines and doing insulations, then you may need vents on the engine compartment.

Is the choke plate opening properly?

  10. Mine has started doing this as well. Ran it down the hwy 25mi in mid 70s F temps. Got out for a few minutes, started back up, hit 100kph again and >plotz<. Dies on the road and will not restart. Fuel from tank to filter flowing fine. From filter to Carb, I have no clue.

After 24hrs of sitting, started right up.

    Frustrating.
