Help!!! Just tried to get my newly imported Subaru Sambar SC safetied so I could register it here in Saskatchewan and the garage tells me every vehicle after 1974 must have a serial number behind the windshield on the dash. I've seen minitrucks before with SK plates on them. How do they do it? Or maybe other makes have the required VIN. I need info fast. Thanks in advance.

i deal with these idiots all the time! you can call me at 306 961 2556 ask for derik.
but the best way to shut them up is ask them to show you where it says that in the sgi safety manual.
p.s. you can report them for trying to force there opinions and not the rules if they can,t show you

You might have trouble when you try to register, too. They told me there was no code for that vehicle and gave me lots of trouble. Ended up giving me a temporary code and a handwritten form instead of the usual computer printoff. They "created" a code for Sambar and mailed me out a regular registration in a few days. Took about an hour or more in the SGI office.

I haven't had a problem with the inspection. As for the registration process, I gave the 'privately-run' (not a gov't office) registration office a heads up on what I was doing, as it wasn't a run of the mill thing going on, so they could research the procedeure.

You'll need to bring the safety inspection and the import documents and bill of sale when you go to register it.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. The second VIN was on the frame near the spare tire. Passed inspection. Tomorrow's new adventure will be trying to register it.

the idiots are not the gov't this time it's the shop mechanics who think they can imposs there opinions and not the rules. the attitude is "don't want one (RHD) sooo.... you shouldn't have one"

I think there is a sticker they give you to put in the window. I saw one in the back window on the drivers side that said "SASK" on it but that is all i remember.

Generally, for the Provincial Safety inspection, the Yellow sticker is put on the door jamb of the driver's door - LHD or RHD.

I have a propane van and its a silver sticker that goes near the filler. Needs re-cert every 5 years for propane. Mine is located at the back window. Van is a ex-CFB Moose Jaw van btw. '88 voyager 2.5L factory propane.
    (sorry to get off topic)
