DD51T Engage/Disengage 4WD on the fly?

First Winnipeg winter with my 98 Suzuki Carry DD51T. No diff lock. Every single feature works, no leaks, squeaks or grinding noises. I'd like to keep it that way. My question is, can I engage 4WD on the fly? I've looked online everywhere. Only one post suggested that this is a possibility, as long as you have already engaged the axle lock. How about disengaging 4WD on the fly? The reason I ask is because with my Ford Ranger, I found that I needed 4WD at a slippery intersection but when I got to pavement I disengaged. We had some snow last night. Right now I am driving around with 4WD since the roads are covered with snow - and the truck is doing great. But once the city starts to tidy the roads up I wonder how I should drive. It would suck if I needed to pull over to disengage. Thoughts anyone?

I have done both in my old DD51T, only off road and not on a paved surface. I would think you would be okay disengaging 4WD but the axle lock button will keep your hubs engaged effectively turning your front diff / gear box. When you come to a stop sign or light just push the button and flip it to 2WD.

You cannot disengage the axle lock if you will not push back the lever first. See it light keeps lit if you push it.
