Hello there, my little van is having an issue where it will sit at about 1300 rpm and not go down. Now before I had this issue it would start at 1300, and over the course of about 5-7 minutes would "warm up" to about a smooth 900-1000 rpm. Any guess as to what it could be, and if I need to replace something what would it be? I'm currently looking for Throttle Bodies, Gaskets, and Sensors that might resolve my problem, and any info on what and where I should look for would be of tremendous help. So far as I know, my van is a late '91 model which if Wikipedia is anything to go by says I have a SOHC 6 Valve Turbo, model EF-TS. Thank you.
Have you checked the radiator level? The the high idle is set by a switch or wax motor, like a thermostat has. If the level gets low the water doesn’t get to the sensors, to tell the engine it is warm, and the choke never goes off. On the carburetor equipped vehicles, there are two small water lines to take it to and from the choke mechanism. And, they occasionally get clogged and don’t flow. First thing it to see if the heated water is getting to and from carburetor.
Im not well versed in cars, but does the Turbocharged EFI versions have a Carburetor? I will definitely check the radiator, thanks for the suggestion!
Excellent, it’s nice when you can get stuff sorted out on these little monsters. Finding someone willing to work on it/with you or research it and doing it yourself makes it worth it , after the last few months any personal victory at any level seems like the World Series and super bowl all wrapped into one
Koffer, Yeah, I agree! It is a nice feeling of accomplishment! I think it can be a problem for the ones who depend on them as an everyday driver, and keep having issues! I have come to the realization that, the older carb. models might be more of a hassle than what their worth! These doggone things can be so handy when their working(running). I've never been a quitter, or a negative person, and I'm not gonna start now!!! Keep up the great work, and Good Luck! Limestone
Hi I have the same problem with my 1992 Daihatsu atrai cruise. Could you point me to where you got the throttle body and TPS replacement?
Sure, I got mine from Yokohamamotors.net Email them and give them the vin of your Van, they'll point you towards which one you need.
