Has anyone found a dmv or 3rd party locatuon that will register a mini truck without all the hassle and bond title? What did you need?

    Thanks,

If it's 25 years or older, was imported as a motor vehicle. Then you can use/ mail into Vermont DMV.

I just looked into that and got of the phone with them. They are saying they will not do any mini trucks or similar from Japan anymore. Just my luck. Must be new.

Might be so new that the person on the other end of the line invented the new rule or just didn't know. It is still on their website, and like most states. A small number of people actually import vehicles and the DMV's really don't know how to and or/ extensive search just to be able to figure out how to run the paperwork. The first person you talk to, probably does not know.. That would require banning imports from Japan in Vermont and for sure, we would hear about that.. The import paperwork and export certificate is not flagged " Mini Truck " so it won't set any alarms off.

If you have a buddy in Florida, you could title it there for a few months or less and then transfer it since it would just be a used vehicle at that point

Some years back when I lived in Arizona, I did title & register a trailer using the bond method. Did cost a few bucks but did seem a pretty hassle-free manner to get it done.

Thanks for the responses. I was able to get it registered in AZ. Long story but if you are in Phoenix do not go to the Greenfield location. There is a compliance officer that is very confused. Caused me a week of heart burn but it is know registered and legal in AZ. Thanks!

AZ has no mini truck laws and your truck is much newer than 25 years old to meet the exemption. Basically no soup for you

Robert, do you have any specific tips and tricks for this? I'm in Phoenix and looking to import a vehicle from auction. Would love some advice about how to title and license in AZ.

Yes go to the Tempe DMV. They handle them the most. Feel free to PM me and I can tell you who to talk with.

Also the MVD in Avondale on about Van Buren and Dysart is familiar with mini trucks.

That's where I went earlier this week to transfer the title of my 1992 Acty! I guess my experience differed from yours in that someone else did the Level 2 inspection and then sold me the van instead of me buying the van and doing it all myself. I paid way more than I should have, but it was worth it to me to not have to go through the hassle of the inspection(s) only to be told "No".

Must be because there is a guy on craigslist out there who buys a bunch of them.

DWils, did you go through the guy on craigslist? I've been eyeing his stock for months now. Seems to get a new shipment in about every month or so. I've texted back and forth with him for a while. What was your experience?

I went through a different guy, not that guy in Avondale. I'll send you the information for the guy from whom I bought my van.

I bought from the guy in Avondale, received the paperwork from him, went to the Prescott MVD, got it inspected there and titled there. Hour and a half and I was done. Full size plate and ready to go anywhere.

Keys do you live in Maricopa County? If so, registering vehicles in Maricopa County and outside of it is different. Only the Phoenix and Tucson areas need emissions tests, so registering it out-of-county might be easier because of the no need for emissions test.

Nope. I live in Yavapai County. Camp Verde. However, that being said, the guy in Avondale understands that, and apparently knows how to handle the emissions issue.

Just received title and registration for my 2020 Daihatsu S510P in Phoenix. Started with first stop at the MVD office in Tempe. For what they must see every day, the agents I have worked with there are friendly and helpful. Had my bill of sale, export certificate and translated deregistration document. Also towed the truck down in case they needed to inspect it. I did not have the 2009 ADOT memo with me which probably hurt me.

They inspected the chassis number (door panel and stamped under driver seat) and verified it matched my documents. However in the end, they cited newer than 25 year rule and they had me go to Level II/III. Luckily found an early morning appt at Tempe location and gave my paperwork to Officer Ortega. Truck stayed on the trailer and he did his work. About 30 minutes later I had passed Level II certificate in hand. Drove back to MVD and walked in at 7:30 and was second in line. Another friendly agent there and I presented all paperwork PLUS 2009 memo.

I think she started down the path of regular registration and then she got stuck, she reverted back to going down the ATV route. I did not guide her at all as I wanted to see what kind of registration I could get. In retrospect, probably could have saved 15 minutes by pointing her to the instructions in the memo. I had my highway certification paperwork so she did primarily off road with some highway which means I will have OHV and can still drive to the gas station legally. We almost hit a sticking point as it states on one of the certificates that the vehicle weight at 1300 kg which puts it into new class. Had to point out that was probably GVWR and not unladen weight so we avoided that mess.

Wish I could have avoided Level II and the extra trip back to MVD, but happy it all worked out.

PHXTrucks, I'm actually attempting to do the same thing with a 2017 deck van and hitting dead ends. Is Officer Ortega at the 2500 West Broadway location? Thanks.

I sure would like to hear about your problems registering your KEI Mini truck in Arizona. I have a KEI Truck waiting for transit to the USA and will be registering it in Maricopa County (West Valley). I have no idea what to expect.
