Hello, If anyone can help me with this question, it would be appreciated. My customer knows whether the tyres we used are DOT approved. How can I tell if they are and also, if you know ones which are approved, please let me know the brands that are. Cheers, Michael
I don't know a better way but scroll down to page 24 on the pdf. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfile...est Procedures/Associated Files/TP-139-02.pdf. In short, DOT tires have "DOT XXX XXX XXX XXX" on them.
Depends on what sort of DOT you need. Most Japanese tires (spelt tires for Canadian and Americans ) are not DOT approved. Canadians worry about this, but Americans don't.
Hi, Thanks Steve. The customer will likely change the tyres (tires ) once he receives the truck. Is this the normal operation for Canada bound? I have seen some Japanese tyres with DOT on them but they were older and regular sized. My mechanic is checking through the manufacturers, so if there is a DOT tyre made in Japan (kei size). The only tires we have seen with the DOT are Yokohama brand. No other tires we've seen for the kei truck size have the max capacity and max psi on them. I don't recall which Yokohama tires, but there was only one kind at Yellow Hat.
Hi Steve, I have found out that there is another Kei tyre on the market with DOT, but it`s made in Korea. It`s Hankook. You are able to get them in Japan. I`m waiting on the prices now, so will let you know. Cheers, Michael
We have had some trucks from Japan with DOT approved tires by Bridgstone, Yokohama and Hankook, The other thing that must be on them is the tire air pressure and the load weight rating or they will have to be changed in Canada. We have sourced local tires 12" for under $30 CAD each. Are they any less in Japan?
With the exchange rate, its about the same or slightly less depending on how many we buy. We have yet to see Bridgestone tires that have the ratings on them.
