I got 15 inch rims on my carry so I dont see why you couldnt run a 16

Ha I think the larger size allows me to go faster but it does take a second to get that fast

I had 195 55r 15 Izens (24") on for a few months last year. I also have a vacuum gage and did some milage calculations.
Yes, you will run lower revs, about 1100ish from 145s, but you also put a lot more load on the engine. It has to work harder to do the same thing so, it runs at a higher vacuum. (1"HG vs 15"HG)
The truck will still get up to speed, only it takes longer to get there. It's fine for intown driving and speeds below 60kph.
Once you get out onto the highway, at about 85kph, vacuum bounces off atmospheric, (air flow max as a function of engine RPM)..very slow acceleration.
With the stock 145s @ 85kph, vacuum runs about 14"HG. Acceleration above 85kph is still normal.
So, a lower rev traded off with a higher vacuum, all things being equal, you'd think that the milage would stay about the same?
    No, you've added a 50% greater spinning mass, 1/2MV^2.
So, With the tire swap to 195 55r 15s , two things happen,
    1) Faster engine wear.
This is due to the higher constant load on the engine, which differs from a higher constant RPM and less load.
Like pulling a heavy trailer around all the time.
    2) Gas milage goes down.
Larger spinning mass, larger frictional footprint. Although the former has the greatest negative affect.
Mine went onto my Ford for use as winter tires and I run the originals for everything but offroad use. For that I use the 24" 489 titans.
BTW, do not be afraid to rev these engines out. (F6A anyway) Since I've boosted mine, I drive it like I stole it and frequently load-rev beyond 8grand with both the 145s and the 24"; yes I have a tack.
After owning for 3+ years, and driving it like I stole it, still purrs like a kitty.

Spaner thanks for the info. In my situation here in Pa. we can't drive these little guys on roads so the tire switch would be for off road use which I only get up to 25-30mph so after reading your info I should be ok? looking for more height and taller tire. Sorry I guess I should of wrote that. Thanks again for the info. Rob in Pa.

Then you're best to go with an ATV. Ride, width, and grip. Depending on how much work you want to do, and what kind of loads you're going to carry.
I have a 2" lift and run 24/8/12 front, 24/11/12 rear. Previous to lift and very slight front fender cut....bouncing front well rub, rear loaded box and even towing tung weight...slight rub...2" lift...never rubs front or rear. You typical winter car/truck tire are way too stiff for a good ride.
My Titan 489s make the truck run like a catty offroad. Not exagerating, night and day differance.

But atv rims and tires are lighter than truck tires and rims so the wear and strain on the motor wont be as bad if thats what your worried about

Like he said at low speed the size of the tire isnt really a problem I think you should be fine with big tires off roading, if you wanna sale them rims let me know

Yea, I've seen your pics. And others that have posted similar configurations. What I mean and would recommend, is that you get yourself a set of ATV rims to go along with those bears. Those tires are fine, but the wider/proper rim will give a better ride and all around operation....right now the sidewall is layed over to fit the rim. It will work, but you're losing a lot of the benifit of using the wider softer ATV....right now, it's not really wider...is it.

A taller tire, either or type, will not do any thing for you as far as additional hight/lift. You already have had the benifit of that. An additional change of 1" will give 1/2" of lift. Big differance from 145s (20"), nothing from what you have now.
As far as the tall street tires for offroad, been there, done that. If you don't care about the ride at all and just want better grip, then yes I would recommend a "studable" tire. There is nothing better for rocks, trees, mud, clay and even snow. They can't be beat, but the ride SUCKS...
My truck is pretty much unstoppable, with the studables, I was ripping stuff off the bottom.

I guess that if you are asking my opinion, I would say that you need the ATV rims that fit the Sambar. Proper bolt pattern yes, but proper width and offset for that width application on the Sambar; with the Bears (an ATV package). I don't know what that is. Suks, no prob, but here, you'll have to search and ask of the others that frequent the Sambar sub-thread.

Tire pics, as you asked for though...

I am using 175/70R14, Hancook I Pike mud and snows mounted on DRG DR31 S alloy rims, size 14x5.54-100/11435S with appropriate shim rings, 73-59.2 mm. I purchased a complete package from Discount Tire Direct. The wheels look awesome on the truck and tremendously reduced the unsprung weight for the truck. I can lift a tire and wheel combo with two fingers. The tires leave no damages in the fields and trails, as opposed to ATV style tires. There is no hill I can't creep up on the property, empty or loaded. Wet or dry grass is not a problem and the tires run smoothly up to 75 mph on the highway. I'm not sure what terminal velocity is. 80? 85?

The truck has a 2" lift.

I made a cheat sheet for the speedometer. It is mounted on the RH A pillar at eye height. If one doesn't want some speeding tickets running 14" tires, I highly recommend a cheat sheet.

Please go into your profile, and add some information on your truck, in your signature. It lets folks know what you’re running, and makes it lots easier to give advice and ideas when needed.

Look at mine, spaner, and limestone’s of examples.
