just bought a 2001 carry automatic 4x4 looking to do a few mods, air box mod to increase air flow and remove or take the guts out of the catalytic converter and maybe a different muffler.

Think this will add more power or hurt the performance?

good idea take off catalyltic converter and throw as far as possible . you could also add a blower for air that runs off crank. wow now your cooking

Leave the cat... But ditch the stock muffler Maybe look at a k&n filter.

I've heard those small cats like the one on my truck are very restrictive though? Yeah I see a k&n filter in my future

I would leave it, cats have not been that restrictive since the 70s.

With a more free flowing muffler I find my hijet has a little more up and go but best of all it is better on big hills and takes way less peddle to maintain speed

I am also running 13 inch rims and the tires are about 7% taller and the engine notices the loss in torque

You could always swap in a 1.6 out of a geo tracker

Wonder how that fits? Has it been done before?

I put on a walker muffler the same as fupa put on his. I also found a k and n filter that fit by using the filter look up by size on their website. Another thing would be a bit more timing advance, I dont have my timing light ATM so I can't try advancing my timing yet.

Not having any experience with ATV's, do you think it will be louder - same - quieter?

Depends on type of muffler, if it's a race ish type of muffler yeah it'll be louder but they have performance mufflers out there that are quite

I've seen several folks use a OEM take off sport bike muffler. They can usually be picked up on craigslist or ebay cheap.

    So a little update

I knocked the guts out of my cat, helped throttle response
I picked up a small tractor muffler (haven't installed yet)
Also have a k&n filter on the way
And E3 Spar plugs on the way

Okay another update muffler is on sounds okay e3 spark plugs installed waiting on k&n and it'll be done ( for now ) lol.

Probably jump up to a higher octane fuel to accommodate the hotter plugs .

Definitely made a power difference for sure

I just used a tractor muffler on mine , as far as the artic cat motor every thing I've read says it won't work without a lot of $$$$$

Hey do you have a picture of the exhaust after installation? How easy was it to retrofit?
