  4. EPA requires the speed limiters, they really go 60-70MPH in Japan

    Here is the deal,
US EPA requires the speed limiters to regulate them to 25MPH. Weld on shift blocks where the way before, now they will require electronic speed limiters. These trucks are being imported for off-road only. Dealers can not remove them or they will get fined. We (Yokohamamotors.com) invented the electronic speedlimiter and the only ones approved by EPA). The whole thing is silly, but what do you expect from the government?
    Cheers!

It's especially silly (and intriquing) that Polaris is touting the fact that one of their UTV's (the RZR) goes 55mph!! Heck, I noticed even the Ranger XP they say will do 50mph! I'm not normally a conspiracy theory sort of person but you really gotta wonder about this one... :frustration:

Meanwhile, we have family sedans doing smokey burnouts and "heavy duty" trucks blasting through fragile environments at high speeds on our television sets all day long.

Of course Suzuki has a few F6A turbo engines in other vehicles.

The Cappucino, Jimny, AZ1, and Alto Works are just a few I am sure.

Why not get a 1/2 cut of one of these vehicles and do a swap?

If I remember right, those vehicles are around 67HP with a turbo upgrade raising the bar to over 100.

Of course HP isnt the only issue here... RPMS and gear ratios and tire sizes play a huge factor.

Got a 89 carry with a 550 F5A will bury the spedo with 13" all terrain tires and a 2.5" lift pretty stable. Starts "beeping" at about 90 kph.

Our "little" Subaru has no trouble going (and maintaining) 90+kmph. With just a "little" more road, 100+kmph is no "problemo"!
*Plain old standard 12" tires. The 12x23x8" "Swamp fox" tires, want to "shake" you out of the truck @ 40+kmph!!

i have a 92 mitsu and drive it on the highway a lot, but not in the winter, and i am getting about 45mph in town and about 35mph on the highway. in town the rpm is about 4000 and at highway speed its about 6500, that why you use more gas. these number that people get for these trucks is from japan where most roads speed max is 80k's. be carefull about putting bigger tires on these trucks to lower the rpm...these engines need to run at these kind of rpm's to make HP, plus too big of tires will cause brake fade and the loss of power at highway speeds up hills and into the wind.

I have a 91 honda acty, with the original wheels and tires had no problem running 90kph, with 23" wheels and tires I dropped to about 80-85kph and 5th gear is pretty useless and i drop speed in 5th. I wish there was a way to increase the power but not real sure how to do it.

I'm now running a 1990 Suzuki Every with the factory F6A Turbo and I have to say it is way better to drive than my old N/A F6A 1992 Every. The extra power makes a huge difference and you get 6.4 rear gears instead of the 6.8's so you're good for less rev's on the hwy.

I've had my 92' DD51T with a 2" lift and Carlisle All Trail tires to 58 mph. I was on a paved road and clocked it by a Garmin gps. I believe it may have had more speed in it but I didn't have the guts to try. :)

    More speed

I too am looking for a bit more speed. I have a 1990 Daihatsu Hijet, two wheel drive. I have a nephew that has a little turbo he thinks might work. Is that more work than it's worth or do you think the easiest solution would be some taller tires? Right now I can probably get 45mph.
    Recommendations??

unless you have some sort of governor on the engine you should be able to hit 75mph even with a 4 speed

I'll bring a thread back from the dead.

Has anyone ever done a Arctic Cat snowmobile enging swap? In 2002 they had a 660 non-turbo. I thought having FI would be really nice. A virtually new motor wouldn't be bad either.

The resale isn't that great on those sleds plus I have access to the crashed auctions. Might be a good summer project.

Cool read but way over my head. I just want to add fuel injection to mine.

I don't have any trouble pushing 90 kph in my 1996 Carry 5 speed with a 2" lift and 23x10 ATV tires... and after putting the car battery in place of the lawn and garden battery that it had when I bought it I haven't had any trouble starting it in the winter either.

I have no lack of power either, I just think a semi "bolt on" FI kit would be nice and from what I understand that Arctic Cat snombomile engine is right out of these trucks.

Don't say this... It already scares me just looking at it. I keep telling myself no one is going to get hurt. :p

Hi, guys. Just remember about brakes before "speedup" mods.

    i like this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26PYrJEvUCc

    so few questions
    1) size of tires?
    2) size of brake discs?
    3) any other mods apart from install turbo?

F6A do about 42h.p. in atmo and 63h.p. in turbo version. That's correct for 9x, for 200x little bit more

Anyone swap the T660? Looking for experience or a write up...

It has been covered enough to note that it is not even close to a bolt in swap, and as I recall requires use of the trucks block with the T660 internals and head as the bellhousing is machined on the T660.. Can be done..

I think an easier swap is the 660 Turbo from a Jimny, which shares blocks with the Carry. The oil pan, and engine mounts need swapped, and the intake manifold adjusted/ re fabricated but, it's a doable project
