I know we have a lot of hunters on the site so I thought I would start a deer picture section for 2011 season.
Ive been watching this puppy since the middle of summer. He always hangs out in what we call the creek field. There are two more like him on the north side of the place but every time I get up there and they see me they kick in the afterburners. Over the Christmas Holidays I'll set up the camera and see if I can get a picture of them if they make it. The hunting pressure is pretty weak around the place these days and our bucks are getting better every year. I have some wonderful neighbors that dont hunt but feed protein pellets. :D
Over this past weekend I counted around 30 different doe and yearlings three nice bucks and 1/2 doz. little bucks on the ranch.
I know some of you are in the big white tail areas of the country and have those monster white tails. Remember I am in the Texas Hill Country and a 18" spread 150lbs. is big for us unlike the South/West Texas white tail.
    Lets see some pictures.

All Mine Are Cut up and In the Freezer!
i Got 4 of them this year. 2 in muzzloader. and 2 in Rifle.
Both in Muzzloader Where head shots. one at 80yards other at 200 Yards!!

3 good Size Doe's (2.5-4.5 years) And One 1.5 year old Buck...

No need to Post Pic's you all know what dead deer look like.

& my Trail Cam Got Broken. . . (some one shot it!) so no pic's from that.

  6. On my annual hunt in Texas, I only got a small buck and 2 does. With 11 hunters, we usually bring home about 30-35 deer. This year we only got 9. The drought really took its toll on the population where I hunt. (near Eden, which is between San Angelo and Brady)

I haven't gotten anything here in Louisiana yet. Our club has 2 doe and 2 bucks killed so far.

I'm going again this weekend. Our rut is usually about a week before Christmas.

I had someone shoot one of my cameras 2 years ago. They were trespassing and figured they had been photographed. What they didn't know was that the images were stored on a SD card and survived the damage. The father and son were convicted of several charges. Illinois Conservation Police confiscated the guns used and the truck they drove to get here.

Went out a little while ago and checked the camera. Here's another one that went thru the same area as the other one.

The first pic is of a deer I have been chasing for 2 years now that I call "the great 8" and have never even seen him other than very few game camera pics. The second pic is of a deer I call "stickers" for obvious reasons. I videotaped him under my tree in early november and elected to pass. 2 days ago he came by my stand and this time I didnt recognize him and let an arrow fly.Not the biggest deer I have seen this year but, he is definately an old deer. After the shotgun season I still have tags for our late muzzleloader season as well as the second half of the archery season. Season ends january 10th,wish me luck!

I have a whole new outlook on coyotes now. The jan 2012 issue of Deer and Deer hunting has those pics as well as the entire grisly kill that the guy captured on his trail cam. Trapped 1, got another with my bow and now look forward to after deer season when we can try our luck at calling them in.

We've had more coyotes around the place in the last three yrs. than I can ever remember. They come and go. They hang around for a month or so then you wont here them for two or three months.
I have notice a lot more being hung up on fence post driving down the road. Cant think of anything that has changed other than the drought. Maybe that has them moving more.

Here's a Piebald. A family member shoot this last week in S. Texas. I think its a white tail but the genetics are off by a few. They typically have big white areas on there body here a there.

  14. I took a 140 lb doe last Sunday on my lease near Baton Rouge. It's easily the heaviest doe I've ever killed.

Both of my daughters missed some nice 8 pointers at a friend's place the weekend before. The peak of our rut was about on December 10th. Activity is starting to slow a little.

Say hello to some of my little friends. Picture sucks. I had to use my phone to down load here for some reason. There is a 8pt. and a 10pt. in that group.

I saw plenty of deer this hunting season. The deer seemed to fare well through our very dry spell here in central Texas. I would say they were about 10 to 15 % off their wt. The ones that were killed had very little fat. After having about a week of 2" slow rain the winter grass came out and the oats we planted came up really well. That will get them through the winter and hopefully we will get some more rain with the fronts that come in the rest of winter. There were 2- 8 pts. 1- 6 pt. a 10 pt. and a 3- pt. shot off the place this year. Will still have a couple of 6 pts. a 8-pt. and a hand full of 4 pts. running around. With little hunting pressure around the ranch these past years they should make it till next season. Our buck to doe ratio continues to be out of wack. We really need to thin out the does but its hard shoot one when they still have yearlings hanging around. I guess I am getting soft and not near as mad at them these days as opposed to 20 years ago.
I took this 92 S83P Daihatsu with rear diff. lock, a 2 1/2" lift and 23" mud grips. What a great little truck. It will go any where I want it to go and then some.
I had one nephew screaming like a little girl several times and requested to go back to the house. After I mad him drive and get a little uncomfortable a few times then came through it, he said, it was fun and wanted to do it again. My other nephews want to go wide open.
After entertaining 6 nephews ages 3 to 12 (not one niece) I was ready to go back to Austin.
