1993..55,000km...660cc turbo,awd,ps,pdl,pw,ac..new timing belt, water pump...$3500......please tell me why I shouldn't (or should get this tomorrow)..... I'm honestly torn..I want it,but...I have 2 minitrucks,a 1992 Miata for the summer, and a Volvo turbo for daily slogging..I don't need it..but..it's so freaking cool!.Anyone been in one of these?? is it practical to drive daily ?? ....I think the price is what's killing me ..I hate to pass up a great deal...thoughts either way please..
The wee laddie is in my driveway right now....my minitrucks are monstrous next to it...........got it home after dark so photos if ya want em are a few hours away
Heres some pre-cleanup pics and a couple vids of it in action...this little sucker is freaking sweet....165/70/13 tires yay!..more odd sizes to find:frustration:the TV antennas and the uderseat cd changer have to go..seems to have a driveline vibration ..I think it's the hanger bearing for the rear driveshaft..not 100% sure tho...Christmas comes early...BTW the oil filter is behind the license plate..lol saw that in the owners manual and had to check..sure enough that's where it is..woulda had a hell of a time finding it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RIzmTGrhnE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVIR0dKT5Ys
ya me too. sounds all deep and throat'y AWD too! great video OMG don't wipe out with those summer tires FUPA!!!! Sounds like it has great gear ratio's not as low as the trucks. climb down is a little slow but hey, its a 93.....
Well...ummm.......errrrr.....ahhhh I promised her Christmas present would be real nice..now I hafta make good on that (and I have no frigging clue) Plenty of legroom with the seat all the way back..the pedals are off centre though..the gas pedal is exactly where the Hijet and Mits brake pedals would be.. lol ..it actually stuck ok as long as I wasn't accelerating or braking...threshold braking is the only way with this thing I suspect...the turbo is so small and spools so quickly just touching the gas at almost any speed was instant wheelspin...wheee...think I'm gonna go with 155/80/13s for snows..3% taller but some ground clearance is needed..and this is the lifted version of the turbo Mira!!
Wow. That is just great. I love the massive roof rails! You are going to have a lot of fun with that barring any odd mechanical issues. That's the sort of car that I would love to have a magical instant ride height changer (like an Audi allroad)...raise it up and run your tall skinny snowies for the winter and slam it for the rest of the year and run some fat summer tires.
It's now in many assorted size chunks in my garage...entire front bumper and grille come off with 4 bolts after you remove the skidplate...yup the skidplate..sturdy little piece of kit actually...the front pushbar is purely cosmetic and all plastic....dash is apart to remove any current stereo equipment..the previous owner had all the period upmarket Pioneer Carrozerria stuff so I will be returning it to it's 1993 glory...tape deck and EQ ..I like original when original works...also removed the aftermarket ammeter that was poorly installed with battery cables ??.....detailing the engine bay and making a new heat shield for the turbo.....the vibration has turned out to be engine mounts so the hunt is on in that department....exhaust coming off from the resonator back to be replaced with 2 1/4 inch pipe and muffler.....fluids being replaced...tires being chased down...looking for some 13" minilight rims (painted orange to pick up the orange in the Mira logo I think).....so much fun to be had so little time On a good note the GF loves it ..but thinks it looks like a Chevette??? gggrrr
What a great car Fupa, you can find the stock 165/70/13's at www.tires-easy.com I think. I'd go with 175's just because! What's the gearing like on it?
The gearing is fine..100kph in 5th is around 4500...I'm leaning towards 175/70s as well...stock is actually 155/70/13 as per the owners manual...so 175s will be about 5% over.......thanks for the tire link
Wow, it sounds like it's geared just a little bit better than the trucks Fupa. Still, that'll work. The 175/70/13's can be gotten local, the odd ball sizes need to be ordered into Canada ....
Sorry no updates recently ...the car has been mostly torn apart cleaned, polished, rewired, new gauges, lighting added, shortened shifter, stereo done, vacuum lines all checked, fluids replaced..blah,blah.....promise pics when it's all finished. Found an interesting variant...actually produced in limited #s..and for the life of me I can't see what purpose it would have.
quick update..and an odd (solved eventually )problem..few days ago went out to finish off the door speakers and went to start the car and get some heat in there with me...wouldn't start..turned over quickly and all but 1 little catch then nothing...hooked up the battery charger to keep the battery from draining..smelled a faint fuel odour so I yanked the fuel pump fuse and tried again..zippo...yanked the intercooler to intake hose and gave it a tiny blast of quick start (very tiny) again cranks but nothing...I pull the plugs..they're wet so I dry them and crank the engine over with them out (pump fuse still out) to dry the cylinders..the obvious vapours and gases come out...I decide to check for spark..crank with plugs in plug wire and grounded to the block...zip no spark...hmm..check the fuel pump fuse..it's also the efi fuse and controls spark so I unplug the injector harness and crank again..good spark...hmm..plugs in again injectors hooked up again...nothing but a flooded engine again grrr...over the next few days I dried the cylinders with compressed air, dried the plugs and tried a million different times...until now the car never did anything other than fire right up...started thinking that the only thing left could be timing belt slipping a tooth...teardown check, all good......WTF...put everything back together and consider calling a priest..all sensors have been checked the distributer checked and rechecked..static timing done....one last try..this time I used a remote starter switch so I could (pray for me) spray starting fluid in the intake which I hate using..holding the throttle open to get starting fluid a straight path I crank it over and notice a whooshing coming from the intake ???????????? I unhook the down pipe from the manifold and crank again vroooom it starts.....AAAARRRGGGHH..from idling in the garage while I worked on it the condensation built up in the exhaust (no catalytic conv on this car) and then froze solid when the temp hit -25..got about a half gallon of water out of the exhaust after thawing it....I have been using an old vacuum hose to route exhaust from the tailpipe to the outside when it is running in the garage...anyone think this may have trapped the condensation ?? running fine now..changed the oil again to get any fuel out of the crankcase that may have seeped by...
uh? thats crazy! This may be the coors talking but I don't see why the routed exaust would cause this.... Thats a ton of condensation.
yeah..it is...I'm swapping out what I assume is the stock exhaust..the muffler is prob partially blocked and trapped the condensation...revs like a raped ape with the rear pipe disconnected...
