    Tonight
    went to work
temp was -33c with a windchill of -44c
(thats -27f & -47.2f for those of you in the usa)
Pretty freakin cold - even for a canadian

    And still, truck ran great
    Lots of heat

Probably the only thing better would be to have some kind of insulation in the cab

    But overall super impressive

I thought I would have had to park the truck for the really cold months
    But no, its doing great!!

Traction is even not too bad considering I DONT have 4 wheel drive

I was told ---- oh you wont even be able to drive down the back lane with it --
Yah right !! This thing is just fine

That is cold. I think we saw -12F (-24C) yesterday but today we're in "positive" numbers. All the way up to 8F right now. And snowing.

I think I'm going to need to get a new battery for my little truck. It only gets driven on weekend and the battery tends to wear down. I've got a solar charger on it so I may go give it a try this morning.

Here in Northern Maine, I park my HA4 for the winter. It only has a glorified lawn mower battery and will only turn over a couple of times before going flat. we are set to have our coldest weather of the season (-20 to -30F) this weekend. The truck is great in the fall until early Dec. Heater works great and no one runs their side by sides much after hunting season. they are out in the open and I am snug in the Honda!

    Luckily for me
I get to keep my truck in a nice warm garage

MY battery can't handle anything past -20 either
Maybe some day I can put in a real battery
That seems to be the only issue though

B4 I made more room in the garage...
I just hooked up a trickle charger to the battery

    Then no probs

Mine put out so little heat you chose to keep the windshield defrosted or your feet warm.
Can't drive it with my size 13 snowboots on!
Just got it back had the heater & rad flushed, but it went from -25 to +6 in the last couple days.

I'll take this mississippi 100 degree heat and humidity in the summer time over those sub zero winter temps any day

    Thanks
I was looking for that vid the other day

WHAT kind of battery are you using????
    I want one!

    LOVE the stiff shifter!

Too bad the square wheels thing wouldn't come across in a video for the guys down south to experience....

Your heat must be good too.

Mine still takes a while to get warm.

When I am out running around, I don't bother to turn it off..
It cools down so fast, I would never get any heat out of it in short trips.

    Did u see the forecast???

Thur daytime highs above zero, with possible rain
with fri lows down to -20
    sunday lows back to -30
then slowly creeping back up to the following thur with highs of -6

i think its time for some gasline antifreeze

Are you using any sort of sand bags in the bed? Block heater or battery blanket? Any car starting in -30c is impressive let alone a little mini truck.

  26. starpuss

    starpuss Member

no sand bags. no block heater and no battery blanket. and the back box like thing on may truck is maybe 40lb's

i keep it in 4x4 all the time.

    Hey Starpuss...
Yea a battery out of a crown vic would be great!!
That battery must be almost as big as the motor :)

Do you run really light oil for the winter??

I toss in a couple of patio blocks just for measure.
    I don't have 4 wd
    Tried puttin in 6 blocks
But it was too much, and did not achieve any better grip

BTW I got my truck from yous guyz at KeiKing
    Been very happy with it

My Daihatsu heat is fine to about -25C, I may flush the rad this summer to see if there is any improvement. I have a piece of cardboard that pretty much totally covers the rad so the truck warms up pretty quick. I have a 100W Canadian Polar pad heater on the oil pan and a battery blanket on the stock battery. If I plug it in for an hour no problems no matter what the temp. Driving with size 12 snow boots is a no go, so I usually wear sneakers and put the boots on when I get out. A small sacrifice for 28mpg in the winter, with 13" snow tires and a load!!

Tip du jour: 1' x 3' piece of expanded mesh is great when you're stuck. Keep at least one in every vehicle! (2 is even better!)
