OK, so today using Gregkabob's awesome writeup I changed all the fluids in Takumi today. It was a good way to get to know the little fella... not much to him but more than I thought! Along the way I also changed out the spark plugs and TRIED to do the air filter but it's about 4" too short... so I'm gonna have to figure something else out there. I think these were the original plugs:

Also since my passenger's side mirror was broken, I went ahead and bought a broadway rear view mirror... this thing is the bomb! SO much easier to see everything behind me... and I also have some aftermarket side mirrors on order, we'll see how those turn out. I got quoted $65 for a used mirror from a truck dealer  and $45 to replace the glass at an auto glass place :frustration: so I bought TWO brand new "universal" mirrors on amazon for $18 instead :pop: We'll see how they turn out.

I also found out that I can fit 155/80/R13 wheels and tires from my dad's honda civic (his winter tires) on the front no prob, so I'm going to be ordering a set of wheels pretty soon with some big 'ol winter mudders on there.

Finally, I have ordered a radio and speakers for the lil guy since I love to listen to music while I drive... I'll keep ya posted on that too! Peace,

    -Iron

$45 for a piece of mirror is nuts....looks like your truck is waiting to ambush the first passerby:D

:D He totally was! That trail is tits, I can't believe how long it was, apparently it's 114 miles. Very well maintained too... I never was one for 4 wheeling but I sense a change on the wind :p

Not that it matters or that there is anything wrong with it...but...does your camera/phone have flowers or elves or something on it.....just asking:D:D::sly:
On that note..do you find forward visibility reduced with the larger mirror?? I have one sitting around somewhere but seem to remember it blocking my view..my stock one is a bit wimpy tho

Yeah, my phone cover has some weird crap on it... it was $1.00 on fleabay and I didn't want to pay a ton for something else AND I didn't want to mess up my phone.

This mirror clamps on over the stock one and unless you're spotting geese you don't even notice it's there in regular driving.

Nice flowers! Maybe you should continue the theme on the side of your truck:eek:

Yeah yeah yeah. Didn't feel like f*king up the $400.00 phone and too lazy to buy a different cover. As for paint scheme I'm thinking of green and black... black being the bedliner I plan on putting in the back. I've been tempted by the roll on rustoleum paint job for awhile... and I would really like to put a coat of paint on the truck before winter since the current pain isn't the greatest.

I'm thinking two tone pewter and gold

Sounds fancy... where would you have the color break?

At the crease in the door. Gold on top and Pewter on bottom. Box would also be pewter and rack behind cab. And Black Gator liner inside box

I did the rustoleum/tremclad job on mine ,and have done 2 motorcycles and another truck with the method, works great..takes a bit of time..use an hvlp gun if you have one as it's much faster.....$40 for a whole paint job is pretty sweet on the wallet:)...maybe you could put some flowers and elves on it:p......sorry just can't resist .....:D

Nice, did you go with white or a different color? I know one of my friends has a paint gun, not sure if it'd work or not though...

In some thread or another I saw a truck that was silver on top and green on the bottom and looked pretty sweet. I want to keep it simple so I'm just going with a single color... the first time at least.

I used Tremclad which can be mixed into about 30 custom colours ..Mines "Oregano green"..hey no jokes on the colour I'd never stoop that low:p...regular paint guns can be used but overspray is a bi*ch without a paint booth..if you have a booth or some indoor spot to do it a regular gun should be fine....I found I could do 2 coats a day with colour sanding in between.

Wow, that color looks awesome actually. I dig your brush guard too, although I'll need a receiver hitch on my truck. I've got a shed I think I can paint in... did you do the 50/50 mix of paint thinner like they recommend for the roll on job?

If I remember right (I can tell when mixing I don't really measure) It's more than 50/50 of mineral spirits (you can't use regular paint thinner it has to be mineral spirits specifically) same as a roll on job you need to get it just around the consistancy of milk..just a bit thicker than water..I think I did around 8- 10 coats ,sanded in between each..or maybe I sanded every 2nd coat..can never remember what I did 6 minutes ago let alone last year;)...I know with the bikes I sanded every coat since there was so little to sand..

Cool! That'll probably end up being a project for next summer since this summer is almost gone  and I'll need to drive the truck this winter :). What's your take on fabbing vs buying for hitches? The front receiver hitch mounting points look like they could be sorta complicated... but I don't want just a hitch, I want to build a custom brush guard unit that I can mount a winch on too. Hmmm...

Well, I installed my radio and speakers yesterday. I had to trim some of the inner door panel and use a spacer to get these 6.5" speakers to fit but damn me if it doesn't sound great! And the install looks pretty professional if I do say so myself :)

Plenty of room to roll the window down still.

I put the spacer underneath the vinyl so that it would look like it belonged there.

The ever-popular DUAL stereo, the install works like a charm. Thanks to the many random threads I searched here I realized that there's no ground on the stock plug and quickly isolated the constant vs the ignition power and it's good to go!

Driving back to the back field to check on my brother's progress seeding a cover crop. That's the kind of view I like to see in my rearview :)

Your installation looks very good, one of the best so far. What kind of radio ( DUAL got it now! dah) and at what price? If that's your wife in the back I'm jealous.

Yup, rockin' the minitrucktalk sticker too :) I really can't believe I'm able to drive in places like this with the crappy stock pizza cutter wheels and half bald tires. I love this truck!!!

So they don't really fit without a lift kit... but I think they look pretty decent. I want to go with 14" instead of 15" though; these are my wife's mini cooper;s winter tires... I think 14's will be perfect. Although I've also been toying with the idea of these:

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...hite Letters&partnum=785QR4GRAT2OWL&tab=Sizes

But the wheels that are on in these pics are 25" overall and the ones I linked to are 27" which would be a little out of control; even with a 3" lift I think. They're awesome tires though.

I have 14" rims on mine with 185 /65r14 tires. 23½" diameter. They don't rub. Apparently you can go has high as 195/65R14 at 23¾" before they start to rub.

How do those ride? I'm looking for a slightly higher sidewall to give me some better offroad handling but I don't want to get totally out of control.

I have had the 12"s, the 13"s and now these. It doesn't tie it down too much, I can now use first gear. It is probably the best ride you are going to get from this tonka toy.

Do you offroad at all? I've come to love the extra low first gear for crawling through tough spots. I'm probably going to get snow tires since I'm going to be mainly driving in the winter; I know Yokohama makes a good 195/70/R14... which would probably require a slight lift but whatever.

Have not gotten into any trouble yet and there is always low range for crawling.

(195/70/R14 23¾") Those might not rub if you have the right offset on your rims.

Well I have a 5 speed so I don't have a low range :( but I do have an extra low first gear... you don't know what the offset of stock wheels is do you? I'd like to use an offset calculator but don't know what to put in for stock offset...
