Not sure if anyone is interested in this type of idea so it's in here for discussion..it's a pinnable map..left click on your location and add text (your name etc) so others can find members near them for tech help, off roading or whatever..you click add a pin to this map at bottom right the password is minitruck then hit save not sure if it will create anew url everytime someone adds a pin but here it is with me marked http://pininthemap.com/c70e3fd9cf7a1db04
I tried to add mine and it says there a limit of 2 pins on the free map and to add more you have to upgrade to premium service. I created my own map and here's the link to it. http://pininthemap.com/8beb7b1c5c855e0c6
If everyone would just add their location in their heading that would be nice. I asked this before and so has a few other people. Beats the heck out of me why not.
trax..you are right that would be easiest..just thought it would be cool to see in one glance where people may be located..doesn't seem to work though ,only allows 2 pins..
So this map only 2 pins without upgrading to their premium. I will make one if you want me to...I was working on one a while back. I can get it up and running now. I can see advantages/disadvantages to letting everyone just posting to the map. If we let everyone just post to it will probably just fill up with spam like the forum posts does sometimes. If we want to get this rolling, lets start an address thread where everyone can see who is going to be on the map, and I will add the marker... and give others to edit it. Maybe the marker should look like this? -Title -Address -Info .. Phone(s)...etc. -web address Let me know what you think.
I vote to only let folks with 50 or more forum posts, pin the map... this should keep the spammers out and not only give recognition to "supporting members". z
Yeah that sounds like a good idea. Okay everyone, lets try this out. It won't show up right away. To get on the map you need to goto "User CP" : http://www.minitrucktalk.com/usercp.php click "Edit Your Details" and fill in the "Map Details" fields. -- I will get the map ready and post the link to the map.
I would suggest in the interest of security (many guys have posted pics of "GOODIES" in their homes) that no one puts up a true exact address..a general area may be all that's needed....I would hate to hear that some forum troll spotted something cool and was led right to the front door...A potential scumbag could glean a lot of useful information regarding work times vacations etc. from some casual discussions that occur all the time on here... So..suggestions 1: no one use full first and last name on a pin (login name would be best) 2: no exact address or street 3: no phone # (if someone knows what you have and where you are a phone call confirms whether you are home ) If someone wants to get together with somone on the forum for help or 4 wheeling or whatever a P/M can always be sent and as we are all adults we can make a decision as to who we give the info to,I just think it may be better to be safe than sorry Just suggestions ..I never really thought about them when I started the thread...I'm sure we could still work around it
fupa all good points! I think using those as guidelines this could be a really cool thing, I'd like to go on a trail run. I might not have the best equipped truck but I can still have fun on the trails. I think a map will make it easier for us to arrange such things. z
Z Yes I think as long as the map shows a general area of member locations we can work with that..If a helping hand is 10 miles away it won't make a difference to know the exact street...unfortunately the weeb is full of scumbags just looking for an opportunity. Was just thinking though it would be nice to know where all the crazed minitruckers are so I can avoid those towns...that was a joke just to keep the record straight
Stuff, None of those streets look familiar to me. You must live up north in like Alabama or something later, slim
So here is the town I live in: http://pininthemap.com/4004ac4cc113b3bf5 But here is where I have my recreational property and go to get away from it all: http://pininthemap.com/0c02fddffc3d71d4b its by a small old mining town, lots of trails, old roads and tons of abandoned mines! When you open them up, click on the satellite view for a better look at the terrain. Oldmachinist; I am trying to remember the name of some of the BBQ sauce that is to DIE for that is made out by you, one of my buddy's used to live in Missouri, and when he goes back he brings me some sauce from ST Louis, and damn if I can remember what it was.... maybe one day I will remember and send you some cash and get you to send me a bottle or two.. youre lucky to have good BBQ, we have a few places that claim to have real St louis style ribs, but I have had the real thing when I was stationed in Chicago and we ran down there for a weekend, and the stuff here don't hold a candle!
Here is a first run at it. We need more people to enter their details. http://www.minitrucktalk.com/maps/map.html
first post says left click on location? all i get is zoom in and out. I've been on one of these b4 and it was simple so what am i missing here
For what it is worth I would still suggest no exact street addresses, you can't be too safe on a public forum...I placed mine within a few blocks so if someone is near we can contact each other for help or whatever,by way of a pm....Scary thing is I just found that google maps has finally gotton to my neck of the woods and done a street view..In my line of work I can't be giving that type of info away so freely
It does take a few to update the map. I have it running on a timer to gecode the addresses. I will make the pop up's look better, I just wanted to get something up there working.
cool. and now its linked on the facebook page i see. chickendumpling, didnt realize you were that close!! when i went south my gps tried to take me through there.. now i know why lol!
I agree! The address I put in is for the new Police Station in town Hope some dirt bag goes there looking for my goods....
