13" wheel project

Discussion in 'Daihatsu Hi jet' started by Stazza_Brendan, Jul 12, 2009.

  1. I found a set of wheels off ebay that would fit the hard to find stud pattern of the Hijet. They came of an old Daihatsu Charade. They are 13 x 6 so only slightly larger diameter then factory but alot wider.

The plan is to repaint the centres a gunmetal or gloss grey colour and polish the outer section.
These are pics of them trial fitted. Need to get new wheel nuts before i can put weight on them so the pics are with the jack holding the weight of the truck.

Will post more pics as i make progress

    Those are nice rims!
Yes, rims for the hijet are kinda difficult to find.

rims are actually easier to find than you suspect. i had rims from a mazda miata on mine and honda civic rims fit it too.

check out this wheel application list

  4. My model Hijet uses 4 x 110 not the more common 4 x 100. Only commonly available cars in Australia with that stud pattern is older pre 1984 Mazda (and offset is usually wrong), older KE1# and KE2# Toyota Corolla and older pre 87ish Daihatsu. And chances of finding one with aftermarket wheels with offset that fits the Hijet is quite lucky. Me and a friend bought a Series 1 RX7 that has 13inch wheels on it with a +18 offset and they stuck out too far when we tried them on the Hijet.

Ebay, and searching local wrecking yards didnt find anything till i spotted these on Ebay by chance. Just happened to be the day after i put new tires on the standard steel rims :(

Try Volkswagon Jetta / rabbit / Etc. They are 4 X 110 with 35 offset and should fit.
    VW's are everywhere!

    13 inch wheels

By punching in "mini truck" in Ebay Motors, you will find new 13 inch wheels that are available in all three bolt patterns, with the correct offset, and are not bent or damaged from misuse.

    thats not my case.

  8. I dont think you guys realise there is no market for these trucks in Australia. Plenty of mini truck parts/wheels in the US. but nothing in Aus. Id hate to see the shipping price for 4 wheels from the US.
Also those model VW arn't popular in Aus, Particulary in the area i live in.

Anyway this afternoon i bought the wheel nuts i needed.
I think it gives the truck a much tougher look. Cant wait to have them painted and polished. They look big but thats due to the wrong profile tires on there at the moment.

    Actually, all the Rabbit/Golf/Jettas that are 4 bolt are 4 x 100. :)

Those wheels do look great on there!

  12. Havnt gotten the wheels yet. But im thinking 165/65 R13 as they are the closest to factory size so my speedo will read the same. They are 175/70 on there at the moment, which are a bit over 1 inch in diameter bigger then factory. They are old and hard anyway.

um old and hard? but they still have the stickers on them? i stay if you have 175/70/13/22.6" keep them. thats a nice size. and they look to fit real nice

  14. Stickers are from the freight company that sent the wheels up to me. The tyres are old and gone hard and i wouldnt feel safe driving very far on them. Plus with the size they are they just nip the edge of the door when turned in. So with the slightly smaller size i will be fine. Going bigger size will throw my speedo out and this is my daily driver.

  15. Started polishing the lips on them. Can see the difference, this is only with sandpaper. Will hit it with liquid polish after the centres are painted.

Next step is prep the centre of this wheel for paint, spray it Gold and see if i like it.

Suggestion for tyres if you can get them Yokahama A-Drive in 165/65/13
Got them fitted to my Sambar on some Genuine Japanese rims that were multi fit with 3 different 4 stud hole sets.;)

I love Yokahama tires. I always buy them for my veihicles.

  20. Nearly finished one of the wheels. Just needs the lip polished and some new bolts for the outer section. They are just for show and not actually a structural part of the wheel.
