Have a 97 turbo Carry. Does anyone have any knowledge of performance mods. I currently plan to add an intercooler, dump the cat and stock muffler in favor of a supertrapp muffler, add a pyro, boost guage and tach. Will check fuel pump pressure and try to modify for 'more' pressure at boost than what it currently has. Has anyone heard of a factory manual for the turbo model that gives parameters for the injection and if that can be re-mapped?:frustration:
i don't know how big the "tuner" scene is in idaho but i would check with the local speed shops for re-mapping and larger injectors to feed it while on boost. the only worry i would have when you bump up the boost would be the integrity of the head studs. i would get the gauges mouted before you do any of the mods so you will have a baseline of what the stock readings for the motor are and that way you will see how the changes affect it, whether its a good or bad change.
Keep us posted on what you find out. I've got a '97 turbo as well that I need to replace the turbo. I was thinking about a different exhuast since the stock one is rusted through. I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Good luck!
Well, I am a speed shop and general repair. Have run over the years,NHRA pro stock, super stock, super gas, APBA grand national hydro and unlimited hydro, unlimited whitewater jet. Have lots of experience, but have always had LOTS of info about what I was doing. Have a baseline on engine now, not going to up boost, just cool the hell out of it which will in turn slightly raise pressure because of air density which in turn calls for more fuel. Really need electrical diagrams and fuel curve specs before I go too far and BUILD A FIRE in the engine literally. Then all I've got is scrap. Any and all help appreciated. i think they are mitsubishi motors but very similar to the carry and they put those in snowmobiles. you might do some research here on the forum and find the manufacturer of the snowmobiles that run the 660 mits turbo and see if you can contact a shop that hot-rods those? should get you in the ball park. everything i have put a turbo on has either had a carb that was easy to rejet or common enough to take it to a shop and have them re-map it and set me up with bigger injectors... sorry i can't be more help

Hey milt...the brand is arctic cat and i was led to believe they use the suzuki 660cc turbo but they dropped it for this year. wyatt
Wyatt, you are correct the Artic Cat T660 was a 110hp turbo'd suzuki, and was discontinued. For 2009, they have the Arctic Cat TZ1 Turbo Touring LXR. To boost the turbo the easiest is increase the size of the turbo inlet pipe 1/4~1/2 inch (Grind out the exhaust manifold pipe). Use larger gasket (Suzuki) Part #14181-81050. It will not overspeed the turbine and adjustments are automatic.(f you do not have emissions issues increase exhaust pipe diameter 1/2 inch and you will gain 14~16 HP. Larger (pound) injectors are not nessesarry as they are under rated anyways. The high performance injectors from Suzuki Wagon-R are the best option and the inter-cooler will fit (need to modify the piping). They do require a different pop-off valve. Replacement turbo's run expensive even here in Japan (dollar rate sucks now) at about $500. We have them, but due to the exchange rates these days not a lot of people buying them. We do this a lot with Suzuki Jimny's for off road racing around Mt. Fuji. We have gained 28~37 HP with this trick and the Wagon-R Intercooler. Any modifications past this and you need a copper head gasket (expensive). Cheers, Don
Yes, there are mods to increase output over 120HP. They are ridiculously expensive and you would likely be cheaper to fit a chev 350 or something. Ha. No, but really, the kits with turbo, injectors, computer, gaskets, etc can be close to $4 or $5K!!!!!
