In an on-going effort under the heading of "it ain't fun till it's fast enough to hurt you" i'm interested in a long block with low mileage to swap into my 99 hijet efi twin cam. then i can tear down the stock motor, mill the head for some compression, regrind the cams and do some port and polish work. i think i can get at least another 20-25 hp out of it without sacrificing reliability and without putting a hair dryer on it :D

too much time, yes. too much money? is there really such a thing?

i could do it by just pulling the head and putting it back on, but i think it's easier to spend a weekend doing an engine swap and then not be in a rush to finish the hot rod engine. not to mention i'd like to freshen the whole thing up if i'm really gonna put the screws to it!!

keep me posted greg, i'm not in a big rush... gotta get a couple other affairs in order first, but wanted to get my feelers out early. it will be nice to have a good low mileage stocker sitting around in case i tear up the beast later on down the road....

i started looking around today for an easily exchanged motor from another car, and was spec'ing out the daihatsu charade 3cyl 1.0L and it only has 53HP and 58LB/FT torque, so i think i'll save the headache on a swap and just tinker with the stock motor. once i determine the deck hight and cc the heads, i'll have a good idea of what i can do. but i think a little more duration on the cam will allow a higher CR without detonating or having to run high test fuel. and should give it a little more oomph on the big end.

I agree. I don't think it would be worth the swap. Either way I was hoping to find someone to buy my engine, trans, etc... I may have it out this time next month. Shipping is gonna be a biach. I will make you a good deal on both the engine and trans if your interested. How does $750 sound?

no complaint on the price, just the timing. i don't think i can put my truck at the top of my Christmas shopping list :frustration:

if you're not in a hurry i'll definately take it in january :D

shipping shouldn't be that bad, i've got a few good connections with shipping companies. i really can't see it being more than a couple hundy.

i'm getting ready to be back on disability and in vocational rehab, monies will be tight... and my list of stuff i want just keeps getting longer...

i was hoping an engine to work on would be good therapy for my hand and my head... geeze and then you offer me wheels and tires??? i'm gonna have to pass :frustration:

as soon as i sell my dodge i'll have the cash to fund the mini...

Nah, gas is so cheap now, I'd have to be nuts to spend 1,000's on electric.
I did a lot of research, it's just too expensive for the limited range.

Whatever it is, I look forward to the results!!

    Good Luck!
