I got out with my mitsu's again recently and took a shot at at playing in a patch of sand... It's the first time we got one so stuck that it couldn't get out under its own power. ...Still comparing the differences between having a rear limited slip -vs- front limited slip. I can say now, without a doubt, it is significantly better to have the front lsd. I never even came close to getting stuck in the sand while i was driving the truck with the front kit. unlike my friend in the video. After that, we were a little hesitant to go further in to the dunes and stayed on the firm stuff. I saw a few rhinos out in the area and tried to keep up with what they were doing and i collapsed a rim going through the whoops. I think i just have to accept the fact that these are never going to handle speed like a pre-runner, which is the newest project in the garage now. MikeM, I haven't been to redrock with them. i doubt it's allowed. the police are giving tickets for stirring up the dust anywhere we've tried to go except apex. it really is too bad because there are so many great trails surrounding the city. i think our next trip is going to start at the west end of town and take us to the back of Mt.Charleston. I'm thinking of a distance ride on the fire roads and trails through the back of the mountains instead of beating them to death the way we have been. Its been great fun finding the absolute limits of these trying to get to the top of whatever is in front of us and then throwing them down the other side. these $20.00 trucks are getting expensive to repair each time i go out. It's time for a break and now theres a prerunner in the garage begging to be abused...

Someone sent me a note from youtube saying how annoying it was to go through so many short clips so i took a shot at editing, that also let me mask the wind noise i get from my microphone too. These have been great fun since i brought them home. sure puts a different spin on them when you're not trying to take care of them for the company. what used to be a toolbox in the back of one, is now a beer cooler...they get shook up a little but, i think its a far better use for the duratrunk.

minimog, I haven't been to dumont yet. we might get out there soon though, probably with the bigger trucks. My mini's didn't seem to fare well in the sand with the tires i have on them. looks like paddles are in order for a trip like that. I'll have to check in with you before we head out there and see if we can cross paths one day.
We took them down to about 8psi and they started to look like they were getting too close to the ground. Then i didn't air up when we were on the rough stuff and bent a rim. I'll try a lower pressure next time i'm near the sand. i guess you have to decide how/where you're going to drive them and setup accordingly. Thanks for the tip.
One of those $50 12v air pumps might come in handy when you have soft and hard terrain. They plug into the cig lighter, or clamp onto the battery.
Havent been out in the trucks in a while. bought a new house this spring and pulled the trucks out of storage... spent the last few weeks dialing in the mitsus, three new cv's another trans teardown, replaced a clutch, a few new tires and fully set one up with Allan's lsd kits. ready to go out this week to APEX again to test the limits. I'll try to shoot some more bad video of us abusing the trucks...
Hi Dan, Long time no talk. Congrats on your new home. You gotta get a good video comparison of the performance between your "stock" mitsu and the mitsu with the Allan mods. I'm sure with lsd at both ends it will make a BIG difference. Take care and later, slim
hey Slim! took the trucks out yesterday...blew apart another rack-n-pinion in the first hour at apex. They both have been modified now. one has just the rear and the other is set up with both lsd kits. it was unstoppable and the other, with only the rear did a commendable job on the hills. The latest kit was installed with additional shims to give it an interference fit going in. it scuffed tires a little on the asphalt but still had no difficulties with steering. i'll try to add a picture here of the hill i got stuck on with only a rear kit. there's a few more vids on youtube. turn down the volume because my mic picked up the wind noise really bad. http://www.youtube.com/user/reelman68

Go out the big dune out in amagosa valley, lots of fun or go to Beatty and explore of the off road trails.
