i took my truck to the full service car wash a few weeks ago. i was a little nervous of the minimum wage employees at the wheel of my pride and joy. i must admit i got great customer service because everyone was interested in it in some way. it took 4 guys to vacuum it out, and i think they flipped a coin to see who got the joy of driving it the 100ft to the tunnel. they had a sign up that said "trucks and oversized vehicles $1.00 extra" i argued with the manager about an "undersized vehicle discount" but it was to no avail. i kept my eye on them and made sure there was to tom-foolery, they did get a little silly with the "OOGA" horn but all was well. they had to stop the car wash half way through, it seems the spinning rag things got ahold of the battery box that was jerry-rigged on there (which lead to my old thread of battery box questions). once they got things right it was off to the drying area. it took 6 or 7 guys (i lost count) to dry the mini and and clean the windows. i was amused to say the least. today on my way home while trying to see through a bug covered windshield i passed my local car wash. they have a deal there to wash the whole vehicle outside only for $5. all you do is pull up, slide in your cash, stay in the car through the car wash. when you pull out of the tunnel they dry it for you and clean the windows. i opted for that option since it was 112*F and i didn't feel like sitting outside waiting for it to be done. so there i was, sitting in my truck entering the tunnel. everything was ok until the things started spinning. it sounded like they were going to rip through the sheet metal and snatch one of my legs or arms. i heard the roof buckle a couple times as the spinner started coming down from the ceiling. then an alarm went off and it all stopped. one of the spinners got tangle up in my ladder rack on the back of the cab. they fixed that and started me on my way again. i was laughing uncontrollably at this point, it felt like i was on an amusement park ride, getting tossed side to side and waiting for the next big scare... then i got to the end, that's when you hear the big fans come on, and the nozzles sweep back and forth and scare the water off. it felt worse than getting passed by a semi on the freeway. it was blowing so hard i thought it would rip the wipers right off the arms as they were flapping against the windshield. it was rocking back and forth even harder than before and i felt like it would blow me backwards and right over the thing under the tire that keeps you moving. but alas i made it through. the truck made it through undented and mirrors were only blown backwards but not ripped off by the thing that scares the water off. i must admit that all that soapy water makes for great burn-outs and fish-tails as you pull out of the tunnel. and as usual i got the gold star treatment with a bunch of guys drying it and cleaning the windows just to get a look inside.
I am sooooo jealous. I can't wait to get one of these trucks on the road. That story is funny as he**. Randy
It is hard to go anywhere. So many folks stop you to ask about the truck, and you can't things done on time!
Yeah I drive on the road a block or two from the house and people honk and ask questions..Once I went to the gas station to get some smokes hoping that any leo would not pass by.
I think that once they are legal here I'll just be washing it with the self-wash, manual kind. Just to be safe.
that's not really an option here in the summer time unfortunately. it's either so hot the water is evaporating and leaving the soap dried to the paint, or entirely too hot to stand outside at the quarter car wash... unless you want to do it at 2a.m. i miss living in california and spending an afternoon washing my cars.
hmm here car wash places look like big cement built garages. even have over head doors and so forth. there is only one automatic car wash left in town. they seem to be more of a pain to the owners then anything else. (also by garages i mean like 10 bays like auto service garage stuff)
I only have one question. Why does it have to be, "tom-foolery"? Why can't it be "glenn-foolery" or colin-foolery" or something like that? Tmikewww (tom)
Hot, What the hell you talkin about!!!!!!! Don't listen to him. It's only going to be 113 today in Phoenix. Almost warm enough to hit the pool. It' gonna cool down to 110 by monday. We got alot of these Cali people movin over here complaining about the slightly warm weather. Hell it hasn't even reached 120 yet this year. And by the way summer doesn't even officially start until 4:59 PM today:sly:
i may be from california, but i've been here for 4 years now... it's not unbearably hot, just too hot to wash my trucks. when i was in iraq, now that my friends, was HOT! i saw temps over 130*F... really makes me appreciate this cool arizona climate

Just giving you a hard time about the weather. Glad to have you here in AZ. Best State as far as weather and beautiful country (don't tell anyone else), you can go from the desert to the cool pines in less than two hours. I work in Peoria and live in Mayer. Go from 1000 ft to 4500 feet and a big drop in temperature, or the other way around in the winter. Only an hour drive to work. Best of both worlds. Thanks for your service in Iraq. I made them deliver my container at 6:30am so I wouldnt die of a heat stroke. Texas isnt very easy on the humidity either!
not so buddy...been through the esso touchless myself....a bit scary with that big wind jet box coming right for the windshield... but it goes over if you drive slow.....sure sounds loud though..... ...what part of a "place to stand and a place to grow" are you from?:sly: glenn
