New to Mini trucks and haven't seen one in person. How hard or easy is it to access the engine for maintence?

It's not too bad, but can get tricky at times. There's a place out toward Shelbyville called "Bob's Used Tractor". He usually has a few trucks. Last I heard he raised his prices from $3950 to $4250 a truck.

I worked on my 92 Suzuki this weekend. Fluids, Timing Belt, water pump, main and camshaft seals and complete tune up. I thought I was working on my Ol 69 Rambler American. Plenty of room to get to everything. Drop the sides down on the bed and reach right in. Same for the front. Here's a couple of pics of the Carry rear access panel removed and the inside seats out. I'll be posting more pics of what I did in the Suzuki thread.

seems you have better access than i have in my 99 hijet. when i pop the seats up i can just see the front of the pulleys but not much engine, and when i pop the back lid, i can see the intake manifold and part of the trans.

    Greg,

Are there any fuses or electrical connectors visible under the access panel in the cargo bed? I have never looked under there.

Samurai9, I didn't see any fuses while I was in there. As a mater of fact I don't know where the fuse box is so I'll need to hunt it down when I head back to the farm.

LawnGasCaulk, The hijet does look tight. The Carry has tons of access. I was even able to put at air gun to the crank bolt to get the pully off. No problem.

Guess you figured out how to lift the seat up. I actually thought that the HiJet had more room to work in the compartment with the engine not pushed completely up against the radiator, and the whole top of the engine is accessible through the lid in the bed instead of only being able to access the shifter linkage of the Suzuki.

    Sam,
There are no fusible links that I have seen.

Interesting pics. I never realized how far back the motor sat in a setback axle truck. I have an '05 minicab van with the forward axle, and the front of the motor it right up to the front of the engine bay. And I'm not sure of I have access to the tranny...the floor is covered in a vinyl mat, and I've never had it out to see if I have an access cover like that.

Also, I'm not sure when Mitsubishi did it, but I have the ignition system with no plug wires from a distributor. I believe each spark plug has it's own coil just above it, with small electrical wires leading to each coil. Harder and more costly to replace some day, for sure....

i haven't had time to take pix, but i have had the seats up and still can't find a way to get them off the engine lid, it looks like the base is spot welded to the lid and the upholstery clips on that... kinda permanent... but when i get time i'll post pix.
