So I just ordered two Honda Acty's through Mitsui, and they're going to be shipped to the port of Tacoma. I have one broker lined up (YSK Customs) since the port requires you go through a broker but was curious if anybody else knew of another person/broker to go through. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row before the trucks are shipped. Thanks in advance!

Call Gwen at Sound Brokerage. They're just down the road. I used her to bring in two trucks and it was smooth as could be.

How much was it total to pay her and all the fees, etc?

I believe both times the check was about $1,000 total including the 25% duty, which made up the majority of the cost. I don't remember exactly what her actual fee was, but it seemed very minimal.

Great, I see you’re in Oregon, what part?

I’m in Roseburg, small world. Did you get yours plated for street use?

I have both of mine registered in Washington. I tool one to Cottage Grove yesterday to try and get it titled, I was told off immediately, however they were not able to specifically point to any statues on why they would not issue registration, but insisted that kei trucks are illegal in Oregon regardless of the fact that they couldn't say what law/statues prohibits them.

Man that’s annoying. I wish they made it an easy process but that makes too much sense. You were able to register in Washington with an Oregon drivers license? I assume you can drive them here with those plates?

I have some family property in Washington as well, so I used that address but gave them my Oregon residence as the mailing address. As a result, the reg and title both only have my Oregon address even though it's a Washington title. I haven't had an issue with Washington plates as of yet, but I suppose somebody could hassle me if they really wanted t0

Was it pretty easy registering it up there? I’ve got friends and what not that I could claim to live with. That would be ideal then I could drive it on the street, originally thinking just for our family farm. How much is the registration for it?

You'll have to pay WA state sales tax if you register it there. All in all, I think it was like $480 or something like that. I didn't have to prove the Washington address, just had to give it.
Honestly, it seemed like they knew exactly what I was trying to do and did not care one bit. I did say it would be in Washington more than 6 months out of the year, but I don't get the feeling it would have mattered if I didn't.

Did you make an appointment at the DMV or did you just show up? I’d like to register them the day I pick them up from the port. Thanks a lot for all the information I really do appreciate it

I went from the Port to the Customs office to get the stamp on the import paperwork then straight to the DOL before heading down the freeway. Was super easy. Since all of the DOL offices in WA aren't state owned, the lines aren't crazy and the incompetence issues are far lower than our gov. ran offices

Oh so it’s like a third party company that does the registration? Good to know. About how long was the appointment? I’m trying to make it all happen in about one day, got a friend with a long trailer for the two trucks and I want to be as efficient as possible with the trip. Another question since I have you, was it easy getting parts? Where do you go?

Maybe 25 minutes? My family lives over toward Port Townsend, so I usually use JRO Licensing in Paulsbo, however that is quite out of the way if you're just headed for I-5.

Can’t tell you how you helped me, thanks a million! Maybe I’ll see you driving yours around eugene, I work up in that area a bit. Have you done any mods to yours?

When you say they require a broker, are you just meaning just to escort you on to the Tacoma port?

I just ordered one that has yet to be shipped, but I was under the impression I can do everything by myself with the exception of the ISP 10+2 and the escort onto the port.

No as in a broker broker. I believe the Tacoma Port specifically requires it, I read it on their website. I’d highly recommend Becky at sound brokerage. They make the process very easy and direct you on the whole pickup day and what to do and where to go. Most other ports you don’t have to, but I’m guessing Tacoma had a lot of people mess up paperwork and/or it’s a lot more efficient, idk.
The pick up was ridiculously easy. Showed up to the port @ 9am, called, talked to the longshore worker, they brought my trucks out, was gone by 9:30. Super smooth process. FYI I did not have plates for them or even a temp plate and they didn’t even ask or anything. Went to customs, got them to stamp it, took maybe 15 minutes. Super easy process and I highly recommend you get a broker asap before they ship. They can walk you through the paperwork

Thank you for the info, need to get on this now. I have an email out to Gwen @ Sound brokerage now. Luckily shipping hasn't reached out to me; it also sounds like the vehicle won't arrive to carfromjapan until Tuesday.

No worries, let me know how that goes. Was carfromjapan pretty easy? I assume they handle shipping as well. I went through Mitsui and they shipped it pretty quick, had no issues with them.

Bought it three days ago and no word from shipping yet. I asked if he could send more pictures and they told me Tuesday. So assume I will be hearing from shipping next week sometime.

    Any word on your trucks?

I finally got word back yesterday on shipping. It’s supposed to be loaded in the vessel on October the 3rd and it’s scheduled to arrive the 12th. Faster than I expected. I was thinking it would be mid-late October.

Thats a quick turn around! how was the process so far for Carfromjapan?

So far so good, I didn’t inquire before buying because I didn’t want the truck to be bought while waiting, so I didn’t get to see how that process went. But they’ve been very responsive, and if I ask a question I get a response within 24-hours. They even took more pictures of the truck for me ( the car only had like 8 pictures on the original post).

Yeah I've seen a couple gems on CFJ, was it as simple as them sending you an invoice and just paying? They dealt with everything else? That's how it was with Misui but I'm a little disappointed in the quality. They did a good job hiding blemishes and issues.
