Subaru Sambar JA 4WD Build Date 1992/10 Color Code 054 (Polar White) Applied Model: KS4C3AN Engine Type: EN07C Transmission: 5MT Selectable 4WD Roof: Normal Any VIN that begins with KS or KV would be between 1990 and 1998, so it could never be a 2000. They switched to TT, TV, and TW for models between 1998 and 2012. If you do not have the import paperwork or a road-title, then it likely would not be federally legal to register in most states. But there are some states out there that will let you register it as a Low or Medium Speed Vehicle. In order to be federally legal, it would have had to have been 25 years old *at the time of import* and declared as such. If it were imported before that time as an off-road vehicle, then it will always be that.. even after turning 25 years old.
Thank you so much! So I guess it's a 1992! And thank you for the other information as well. I really don't know how it was registered, I just know that my first step to get it done was to call the State Police and have them run a scan to ensure it wasn't stolen. And the output from the scan showed it as a 2000, and that it did in fact have an Arkansas associated VIN now. So I guess next step is to take it to the DMV and have them tell me what I can or can't do. Thanks so much again!!

Sanfu models are made by SanFu Motors Taiwan. They do use a handful of actual Subaru parts (seatbelts and windshields come to mind), and are largely a copy of a 3rd gen Sambar design, but they are not made by Subaru in any way. Since they are not made by Subaru, there is no information about them in the Subaru software.
I do not use a website. I have a copy of the Japanese Subaru Electronic Parts Catalog, which lists this information. It has information for vehicles from around 1982 up until around April of 2021 (the release of the software that I currently have) Here is a screenshot of what I see for a random KS4 VIN: This particular model would be as follows: Subaru Sambar Chassis 4WD (this is an oddball, likely for conversion to a Dump or some other speciality vehicle) Build Date 1992/07 Color Code 054 (Polar White) Applied Model: KS4B3EN Engine Type: EN07C Transmission: 5MT Selectable 4WD Roof: Normal
So each vendor probably has this type of proprietary software. Bummer, I was hoping it was a universal Japanese gov't thing. Thanks for sharing.
The Japanese MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) could not care at all about when the vehicle was made. They keep track of the "Date of First Registration". The Dealers in Japan will take care of the registration upon sale, and that is the first day that the government is notified of the vehicles existence. Then again, the MLIT did not keep track of the month of first registration for Kei class vehicles at all until the latter half of the 1990s.. around 1996 or so. My official export paperwork from them shows the date as "Heisei 4" (1992), with no month noted, even though my truck was made in July of 1992.
I have recently bite the bullet and bought this. Are you able to help me to decode the VIN? Much appreciated.
t_g_farrell, If you are registered with Japan Car Direct, you can enter the vin # when you pull up a car to look at and get the basic information. It doesn't have to be for the car you are looking at. Example: for Ricky Y, it shows Month of production february 1999 Description RHC Colour code 955 Model Code TT2AS2D Code of upholstery 110
