Or search on YouTube for “Pimp My Ride”. Make it Flashy, Basically making it fancy like the Caddies, and Deuce and a Quarters, the pimps customized in the sixties and seventies.
Thanks for keeping this semi interesting with pics...else it's just me rambling like an old guy.....
To me... Fixing up a total piece of shit and getting it back to useabe condition.... Adding a lil bling.... Using up parts that have been sitting around for years so I don't have to throw it out now or later
The fuel pump has been in a box of zx-7 parts since....1996....when I combined a 1995 roller/theft recovery. With a destroyed 1991 zx-7.... but it had a good engine. I saved the pump... nothing else
everything so far is to just get it running and lot driving...... pimpin.... really 30hp to 58 hp bolt in-ish.... 35 mph to guessing 60-65 mph havent got it quite ready for a top speed run yet... i think thats pretty pimp to me
today.... added a sub fuse panel where the dash speaker is. got a relay powering it from the ig switch. installed a retractable civic antenna in the roof.... oops moment when drilling thru a plate in the a pillar......will patch that when i do bodywork. hooked up the speedo drive to trans and the ins cluster..... no turny of the speedo drive from the trans.... FOOK not another trans removal..... it's only 30 min... but dang..... will address that problem later. test hooked up the VAC gauge ..... 20-21 inches at hi idle.... next is get the tacho working.... i think the one i already have is junk... will try it but i gots a feeling it will be replaced.
today..... modded the cushman choke lever to match up to the motorcycle choke cable in the engine compartment. bent up a SS bracket. drilled a hole thru a 5mm allen head bolt. found a brass 5mm bolt and drilled a 1/16th hole thru the thread . found a pair of ?pesos and drilled a couple holes in them. i now have dash mounted Manuel Choke to the HD carb.
well this one is getting to my brain..... new master cyl.... rebuilt calipers.... new rubber hoses.... after 15-20 min of driving...running.... the front brakes lock up..... was plowing the gravel drive trying to get it back to the house.... stopped at bottom of lil hill cause the rear tires were diggin 2 ditched...... 2???????... wonder if it's a lsd? i could see both tires in the mirrors spinning..... what am i missing.... came back 5 hrs later started up and drove it back to the house...... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! am i missing....
Check for any "freeplay" at the piston/pushrod interface in the Master cylinder, may be causing pressure buildup as the fluid warms up. Fred
With a new master cylinder and calipers, I don’t have many ideas of what to recommend. Typically the pads, or the pistons in the calipers are sticking, or if you have floating calipers they are locking up and not floating. The other cause can be the sustaining valve, which is in there to keep a bit of residual pressure on the calipers so they don’t retract fully. If they retract too far, there isn’t enough stroke/volume in the master cylinder to push them back out far enough to firmly contact the rotor. But that valve is typically part of the master cylinder.
I saw something similar on a wheel loader in the Heavy Equipment shop some yrs. back. In that situation, a new mechanic used the wrong fluid, as it was heating up, quicker than it was supposed to. It's always better to supersede fluids rather than to under! When I rebuilt my brake system, I noticed that mine needed to be bled more than usual! I have done my fair share of brakes, as most of you have. Using a power bleeder really helped save time, especially not needing another person to work the pedal! On mine, it surely seemed to trap and hold the air, and I had to move to every bleeder available to finally get a good fluid flow at bleeding, and the brakes would respond better at each test! It did take some time but, gain you can't beat the power bleeder! Naturally, something is causing your system to expand, and lock up! Even with new parts! Good Luck! Limestone
yeah, fresh fluid.... new bottle.....mighty-vac...is my friend....hope to have a friend and fresh set of eyes..... monday evening.....
Did this start after the brake job or was happening and is still the same problem after .I would take a line wrench with you and when it does this fun , loosen the front wheel line going the master , see if it releases the pressure , if not work your way towards each wheel till you come to the trouble spot . Its a low rent way of doing things but it’s something you can do my yourself
second set of eyes...... got to add cooling..... feel how warm thes lines are when they get close to the rad...... so going to wrap brake lines and think about elec cooling fan in front of the radiator..... it's gunna be something stupid. friend found the prob with the power windows in 5 min on my other truck..... not JMT..... that was kicking my butt for a long time.... and we recharged the metro after swapping in a used compressor from latest parts metro..... so evening was good then good food was had by all.
So your saying, that because the fluid is heating up, naturally it's expanding, and causing you problems? I guess I'm not understanding why the original design of the brake system, isn't working properly!
100% the dumbass who worked on it... it was his fault..... the cushman booster was too big to fit in the u14t.... so said dumbass installed the 7/8 master cyl direct swap to the u14t booster..... what a dumbass.... the depth going into the cushman(7/8) is 40 mm.... the one going onto the u14t.... 50 mm.... the rod in the cushman booster is built into the booster the one in the u14t is removeable.... the dumbass cut 10 mm off the u14t booster rod. havent gone for the test ride.... but i got a feeling it is solved. best logical guess..... there was always pressure applied to the brakes.... the idle was rough with the egr..... when i tapped the vac gauge i bypassed the egr..... with egr... rough idle 10 inches vac.... with the egr bypassed.... 20 inches of vac..... swapped out the egr with a blocking plate...... tadah.... 20 inch vac.... smooth idle.
limestone..... recap..... U14T body and elect system.... the front struts including the disc brakes swapped from the cushman... rear end.... cushman.... master cyl.... cushman.... brake booster.... U14T.... DO'H.... not a direct swap of all cushman parts.... therefore.... DO'H
Gotchya! Thanks for the re cap! Now, I understand! Pretty amazing, how sometimes we think things are done a certain way, when they actually aren't, mainly because simply, weather it's financially driven, or just because someone thought that would be better. I'm glad that you got it! Limestone
dropped it off the jack stands. took it for a run to work the brakes.... 20-30 mimutes.... ran ok.... brakes...great... fuel gauge.... fook ran out of gas.... neighbor got me 2 gal.... drove to town..... filled it up gauge goes above 1/4 tank 1/2 to 3/4.... dang it kinda works. new battery is in my future.
