I've searched all over the forum and onlind and coming up with nothing. My pads are metal on metal because a caliper got seized. I really don't want to pay $75 for pads with $100 shipping. Is there any north american pads that will fit a 91 sambar ks4?
I know used is never a good practice, but, I do have a pretty good set of used pads from my parts truck. I bought some Subaru Justy pads for $5 on Rock Auto and they are not the same.
http://rightdriveparts.com/subaru-sambar-brake-pad-set-front/ These are $76.50 Cdn but surely the shipping isn't $100
I was messaged a great site https://www.fitinpart.sg/index.php?route=common/home $60 including shipping. I'll report back whenever they show up if the parts are good.
Ordered them not even 12 hours ago ans the tracking says they'll be here on thursday. Damn, if they're good quality this is the website i'll use from now on.
Partsouq is in the UAE, and with the 1 day lead on that part it would come in a couple days to a week or so since they use Fedex. Prices are USD, shipping usually adds $20 or so
That is a bit of a stretch. While they list 99% of the Subaru parts.. they only stock perhaps 1-2%. They do not accept special orders, and they do not allow for backorders either. I agree that they are a great resource with excellent pricing, but availability is very much their weakness. Don't get me wrong, they are the first place I check for ordering parts because of their low prices, but more often than not, I end up needing to order most parts from Japan instead.
Reporting back, pads came, they are the right pads. Shipping was fast, ordered them friday and they came today eith Fedex. $60 canadian, so a bit less in USD. Now time to see if I can unseize my caliper
If you have it off, you should be able to screw in a metric zirks fitting in the the bleed screw hole, and block the line hole, then push it apart with the grease gun. If you can’t get it moving with that, it is toast.
Nice note on the pads. Too bad about the caliper. Grease gun is a good way to do that. I would try an air gun first.
Just be very careful if you use air pressure as parts will separate with explosive force when they do break loose. Do not have any body parts in line of where potential flying parts will travel. Fred
I’ll second that. Why I said grease. You pressurize the frozen caliper up to about a hundred psi, with air, and then it decides to break loose, and goes ricocheting around the shop bouncing off of hard things. Hmm, this piece of machined aluminum is now a paper weight, because it as all dinged up, and no longer really round. The grease gun can exert a great deal more pressure than the air compressor, and does it in a slow controlled way.
I put a rag under the piston so it would cushion the piston when I used air. Made a pop, but no big deal. On a different note, I do have a spare set of calipers.
Calipers were fine, it just came out a little sideways somehow so when I put it bqck in straight it works fine now
I can confirm that these are indeed the correct pads. I ordered two sets since they were so cheap and a few other things came "in stock" there. They are exactly the same shape as the Toplead pads that I have that I bought from Japan. I have a set of these Topleads on the truck at the moment. They are co-branded TRW and Lucas.
Well I bit the bullet and picked up some pads from partsouq. FYI, the current price is $0.43. I bought an extra set since shipping was only $7 more for a total of $42. I'll put the extra set up for sale for 1/2 of the total ($21) when they get here.
Unfortunately, I do not think that Partsouq can get them anymore. Someone on one of the Sambar facebook groups ordered some last month, and their order was cancelled a couple of days later.
