My son and I have spent the last 3 days in the turkey woods. I drove it around for 2 days and the fender flares worked like a charm and kept 98% of the mud off of the truck. All my tire rub issues have been resolved and the world was good. My 16yo son took it out solo on day 3, and it came back covered in mud. I don't understand what could have happened?
On another note, we did some fishing in the afternoons and guess who did the boat launching? It towed the boat no problem. I did have to downshift into 4th a few times on long uphill climbs, but it was really painless. I did get a few looks tho.
Ohkei, It's trips and things like that, that make it all worth while! Very rewarding! Good to see! Limestone
Took a trip down to the river! Hooked several, Steelies, on the ol' fly rod! Very rewarding! Catch and release! That's just the way we like to do it! Were allowed to keep two! I'm okay with letting em go! Just me and my 12 buds!
Hey Ohkei, i'm currently diagnosing a problem and i'm not 100% sure my plug wires are on the distributor in the right places. We have basically the same truck, any chance you could get a clearer image with which wire goes to which cylinder?
I meant down on the distributor part if you can, there isn't quite enough light for me to see which one goes where. Thanks!
Ohkei, I like the way that you think! Make it easy for down the road, just in case! One of the huge benefits of having a dump/scissor lift bed is access! It really is a tremendous benefit! That being said I was able to weld mine on! After I fab.'d it! Some pics, to help explain! Since, I'm strictly off road, I removed the tail light's, and tin brackets, leaving the wiring for future, possible use if needed, or wanted, and I fabbed a piece of 3/8 steel, and welded that in place, to mount the newly fabbed "z" style, shaped brackets to! I went with a 2 inch square tube, because it's easier to stand on if needed! Easier to mount the brackets, and hitches to! I've allways been a dual purpose, kill two birds, with one stone, practical kinda Guy! I do agree with you, we can only haul so much with these! It does make a very use full step though! Limestone
I'm sorry Kody, my truck is currently at my hunting camp. There is this thread that might help you.. https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/1992-sambar-need-help.18783/
That looks good Limestone! Having that access would be nice, as well as the ability to dump/scissor. Maybe on my next minitruck!!
Helps a lot, thanks! It appears to be running good now, and it actually started. I must have reversed one of the plug wires when I was fixing them. Thanks!
I went back to hunt camp to find beavers had blocked a 5' pipe that goes under the road and things were going to get really bad. My hunt buddy had shoveled and worked all the day prior, only to find they had rebuilt it by morning. Enter the General.... I was able to put the deer hoist on and lift out the larger logs making a much lesser job of the ordeal. Got the entire pipe perfectly clean as of sunset today. One beaver got a load of hevi-shot in the face last night, but it looks like we are going to have to set out traps to keep the busy things in check..
We've found that Fox scent(urine) on a rag, seems to help keep em at bay, or heavy shot works too! LOL!
I got a chance to fire up the General and go check for beavers. Nothing caught, but nothing built either. Maybe they caught a glimpse of the General and knew it was over and left? I can't tell you how happy I am with this truck!
This is quite a journal... I've enjoyed reading through it. I'm wanting to install a trailer hitch on my '91 and am curious about the amount of weight it would haul. I've also been pondering the possibility of a 5th wheel... that would be fantastic...
A 5th wheel would really be cool. I wouldn't want more than 150# tongue weight with my setup. I'd be afraid the front wheels would be too light.
I'm not sure how much weight your talking about with a fifth wheel! The idea is interesting. I can't see a full size fifth wheel, with these mini trucks! Maybe a smaller version, fifth wheel with limited weight! I installed a bumper with a 2" receiver for a ball hitch, a Pintle hook hitch, or whatever. I haven't used it yet! But I don't plan on tearing the rear end out of this little guy! Remember, their Mini Trucks!
So you don't think it would haul my 38' fifth wheel with 24, 400lb round bales on it? My f350 did it... i got this truck for workin'. Ha. 150lb tongue weight is a good reference point, again, useful! Thanks! A trailer hitch is going to be a main priority... after several other (more pressing) priorities. DVF
DVF, These are little tiny, mini trucks they were designed as little maintenance vehicles, or small utilitarian units. I, wouldn't even attempt to try that trick, if it was me! Besides the weight hauling issues, the strain on the drive system from a dead stop, to get her rolling, how do you plan on stopping this much rolling madness? You can't even compare a mini truck to a 350!!! A lot of people do a lot of crazy things in life, try not to join them! Why waste money, time, and energy, on something silly? Come up with a more constructive idea. Limestone
I’ve hauled some serious weight in my ATV trailer which is rated at 2000-lbs, but it is a 4X8 tandem axle with electric brakes. It was designed to tow behind a UTV, without imparting more load to the UTV than the brakes and axles can handle. https://bosskibuilt.com/collections/trailers/products/2000-ut-trailer I has a 4X100 bolt pattern, so I’m thinking of installing a set of street tires, and trailer lights. So, I can run it to the dump and back.
Ha = sarcasm/funny... I've still not located the font for that... I'd like to be able to pull a small trailer, just wasn't sure how much to plan on. This truck will be mostly on the road but with the flexibilty to head off into the bush. However... backing up a 5th wheel trailer is way easier than a short tongued, rear hitch... ha.
So are you saying your going to build, or re work a small trailer, into a fifth wheel? Cause that makes more sense to me than a 38' on a mini truck!!! Limestone
I was thinking you could just put a slightly raised 2" ball in the bed just in front of the rear axle and you could drop the tailgate and sides and run it like a fifth wheel and it would handle much more tongue weight, but in reality it's not necessary since I've towed 3,000 lb boats with under a 150# of tongue weight.
Actually if you wanted to tow a very heavy trailer it might be the way to go. But the trailer would definitely need Multiple axles, and it’s own brakes. The brakes on our little trucks are Ok running the loads the trucks are listed for, but get marginal if you go much past that.
