I have a 1990 Daihatsu hijet 4x4 pickup S83p I have fire from the coil but nothing from the cap to the plugs I really like the truck and want to get it running for this hunting season so any suggestions would be much appreciated
I’m still confused. What I am thinking now, is you have power to the distributor, but no spark. I think the 83P was still points with an external igniter, and a separate coil. So the only thing under the distributor cap is the points and rotor. The take the high tension lead between the coil, and the distributor cap of the cap, and stick an number 2 Phillips screw driver in the end that goes to the cap, then lay the screw driver where you can see it, on something metal with a gap between the shaft of the screwdriver and the metal. Crank the engine and you should have a good solid spark which jumps the gap between the shaft of the screwdriver, and the metal. If the coil is generating a spark, then the problem is in the distributor, but there isn’t much which can cause spark to not get past the distributor. If you can post a few pictures.
Does he mean he has 12 volts to the hot side of the coil or does the coil actually spark when the engine is cranked.
I have 1980 Diahutsu mini truck 2wd s80 3 clcy I’m having problems on starting I’m getting fire to the plugs brand new wires points condenser and plugs I can spray starting fluid in carb And it will kick for a second or two ? . also question is what is the point of the condenser on the carburetor? What could be my problem?
Has the truck set for long time? Sounds like a fuel issue if it starts on starting fluid. Does the old s80 have a fuel cut off solenoid on the carb like the newer trucks?
The condenser looking thing is the fuel cut solenoid, and it could be bad. Try putting your finger on it, and having someone turn the truck on, and off a few times. You should feel it disengage when powered, and engage again with the power off. When it has power to it, it should withdraw, opening the main fuel passage. When the ignition is off, or the speed governor (if so equipped) cuts in, it looses power and closes of the main fuel passage, killing the truck. Or, in the case of the speed control, pulsing in and out, limiting the speed.
When I picked up this project it had a Harley Davidson carb on it I found a 3wheller Diahutsu carb and installed it (My Brand new carb supposed to be here Friday from a company Lorreta) but anyways the carb that came off the 3wll Diahutsu had a solenoid which my new has one also I turned my truck on and used maybe test light in the green connector it has two hot prongs and one ground when I ran a hot wire to one of the hot prongs the solenoid clicked each time I touched the hot post
The stock carb has a really fine filter on the seat assembly, that can clog, and restrict the fuel flow enough the truck won’t run. A lesson I learned the hard way.
