Just recently ordered a Glowshift 7 color LED tach from Amazon. Actual info on installation was hard to come by, but got it done. I used one of wires off of one of the coil over plug. Use the wire that is unique color for each plug. The other wires continue the same color from plug to plug. It doesn’t matter which plug/coil you use. Just know that you have to set the tach to “1” cylinder for it to read out correctly.
Rest of installation is by the book. I’m lovin’ it. Best upgrade I’ve done yet.

Good solution. How is the quality of the tach?

I’ve been thinking about one for my Hijet. Getting ready to swap out the stock ignition for a Pertronic setup.

The case and mount is all one piece made of plastic. It can tilt front or back. Overall it’s very light weight. I didn’t even use the supplied screws, just the adhesive strip. Seems decently made, we’ll see how it holds up. I think it’s well suited for these mini trucks.

Pertronix is a very good reliable setup. I have used their products on several different older vehicles over the years. Just use the normal wire at the coil for the pickup for a tach. I am interested in this thread because of the coil-on-plug pickup for the tach. I wasn't sure that connecting to one of the coil wires wouldn't degrade the performance of that individual coil as they are computer controlled. Since it seems to be working for you, I may give it a shot as I do like having a tach.

Since it worked tapping into the plug-coil I didn’t actually try it, but I have heard that you can tap into a wire out of the cam position sensor. I think you have to test each wire to found the right one. I figured I would probably do less damage at the coil on plug. The cam sensor hook-up made me a little more nervous. Also I think if you used cam sensor method you would probably use the 3 cylinder setting on the tach.

Extremely happy with this GlowShift tach. I would recommend it to anyone.
