Coilovers!

Discussion in 'General Truck Info' started by MiniMitsuFrank, Apr 5, 2019.

  1. Hi everyone- Just wondering if anyone out there has installed coilovers on their minituck/van? I have a 1991 Mitsubishi Minicab CD van, but I'm interested in knowing what has worked for other people on whatever you drive...coilover brands, point of purchase, sizes used, stock , etc. I will be swapping the stock suspension with new coilovers one way or another, but as always with these vehicles, hearing others' experiences provides us with more confidence to move forward than we had before! :)

I know the Hoonigan "garage garage" guys on youtube sent theirs in to BC to have a new set of coilovers made for their Suzuki Carry & there is also a video on youtube of an english gent who showed he had BC coils on his Suzuki van as well... I located another thread on here where someone mentioned they got coilovers for their Honda Acty from a site called kei-zone.com, but no other information was provided. Anyone else having luck?

You can use a reshipper in Japan.

  5. Thanks for the link and pics! I checked out their site and they have a set for one model year later than my rig, so I'll need to take a couple measurements this weekend to figure out a match. And you struts do look identical to mine, they're just a little shorter. I'll update if things workout.

    Thanks again.

  6. That's a bummer they don't ship, maybe they would allow a customer to arrange shipping like ttc mentioned.

No problem. Yea, I kind of just eyeballed the pictures and what I had. The worst thing would be I would end up with a kit I couldn't use and just sell to make up for any loss.

If you know your spring data, you might be able to install various rates of non stock springs. By knowing the spring rate and dimension of the ones on my Hijet, i was able to change out the stock 200lb/inch, springs with variable rate 250 to 450-lb/inch springs, which gives me enough spring to carry my snowplow in the winter without bottoming out, and still be comfortable to drive during the summer.

Not to dig up an old thread but just wanted to provide some updated info. I tried reaching out to BC for some coilovers for my ‘94 Carry. Their sales rep informed me the coilovers for the Hoonigan truck was a “one time scratch built kit that hoonigan themselves cobbled together using BC parts”. In short, BC has no plans of offering the parts to kei truck owners as a set or a diy kit.
Kind of disappointing but i’m also going to reach out to fortune to see if they would be willing to develop a kit.
Also, there is hello-special out of Japan that has a coilover kit but i’m not sure they ship international.

You can also buy kits that are threaded tubes that go over the strut.
