Gas Tank Vent

HiJet S83P Jumbo. Was having carb issues. Carb was flooding the engine. It seems that I can't blow air threw the return line and believe this to be the flooding problem. Traced it to the fuel tank and without taking the tank off it seems to be some sort of valve. I can create a vacuum by sucking on the line but can not get it to blow through. If I take the cap off I can blow through. Any ideas before I lower the tank and look at the connection? I was thinking of just routing it into the overflow hose but if the tank has pressure and does not release. I'll have the same problem.
    Thanks in advance.

its the charcoal canister. mine does the same and has filled the base with fuel 2 times in the past. the tank pressurizes with fuel vapor and it is enough to push fuel through the to the carb and over flowing it.

How did you solve the problem - clean/modify/replace the canister or something else?

    Thanks,

Just took off the canister and there seems to be no problem with it. I can blow threw it with no problem. There has to be some sort of relief for the gas tank and I'm debating dropping it to look at the return system and see if anything is out of the norm. I can get the truck to run if I loosen the gas gas cap but I soon as I tighten it, the engine floods.
I was sure hoping it was the canister as it was easy to take off. Thanks ttc for the suggestion.

Right now in don't keep the cap on tight and disconnected the vent from the tank. The canister i think was 100 plus bucks

I am having this problem right now, if I keep the cap loose, it runs fine. Cap tight, it will die while on the highway. Did you guys ever figure this issue out? Was it the charcoal canister?

Please go into your profile page and add the information on your truck to your signature line. t makes it lots easier to give you a hand when you need it, if we know what your rig is.

Yes a clogged vapor canister could cause the problem you are having. Some vehicle have vented caps with one way valves to let air into the tank so it doesn’t ever get negative pressure. Some allow return venting from the charcoal canister.

Thanks, I added it (hopefully). I have a 1996 Daihatsu Hijet S100V Van.
