Suzuki Carry fuel pump differences-HELP

Hey y'all. My fuel pump went out. It has three wires. Most of the ones I'm finding for sale at a reasonable price have two wires. What is the difference? Can anyone give me some guidance on getting my three wire pump? The price for a two wire pump is around $59 and the one three wire pump I can find is $389. Why the difference? Help. This is my daily driver, I need it bad.

 

What year and engine size is your truck? Any numbers on the old pump?

 

I sold my truck but in the time I had it I went through 4 or 5 of the oem and the look alike G&R sells before giving up and putting on an electric. I don't remember the colors but use a meter or test light to find the hot wire with key on the other is ground. I just grounded to a mounting bolt.
Get the lowest volume and pressure pump you can. Good luck.

 

I've read that some have speed limiters wired into the fuel pumps..

 

It is a '90 with the 653cc engine. The only 3 wire pump I can find says it's for the 93 and up.
What the heck is the 3rd wire for? I would put a two wire electric in its place if I knew that I could ignor the 3rd wire.

 

You can ignore the third wire, if you get the aftermarket pump from G&R the instructions tell you to. For an over the counter electric pump all you need is the wire that's hot with key on and then attach the ground wire for the elec pump to the mounting bolt for the pump. If I remember right, which is a gamble, the third wire is for a relay that shuts the pump down when not needed. Probably why they wear out so soon on some trucks.

I did a lot of research on the fuel pumps. The cheap fuel pumps available are cheap aftermarkets to fit Honda Magna motorcycles. They have the right pressure and flow to work in a Suzuki also as well as dropping on the mounts.. The problem with them is they are garbage aftermarkets. The Honda Magna guys use the OEM style fuel pump for a 1983 Civic as that is the same pump motor with a slightly different mount that still has the right mount spacing/ style.. I picked up a Bosch pump for $40, just have yet to install it. My pump starts to falter when it gets wet but otherwise still working

 

Nice to know i just swapped out my OEM pump troubleshooting a loss of power that turned out to be 2 fouled plugs.

Got a $50 pump and some universal filters, is running like a top now.

I'll lock i a civic pump for a back up, better to have it and not need it...
