Hi all, thought I'd run this one past you for any insight before I tear into the carb, fuel system, exhaust, temp sensors, etc. New-to-me 94 2wd 5speed manual Acty truck starts ok (with hesitation) idles great, and runs likes dream... after a few minutes of driving. Whether I take off immediately after startup or let it idle for ten minutes before liftoff it loses power if I push the pedal down more than a little bit. By finding the sweet spot on the gas pedal I can get under way, but it is generally about five minutes into my commute that this goes away and power flows like wine at my mother's house through the whole range of the pedal. A week ago it did not have this issue. I'm going to start with a coolant flush, oil & filter change, etc., but to my amateur (at best) mechanic's brain it seems like a carb or temp sensor issue. Thanks for any thoughts!
Do you see black smoke from the exhaust during that time? Black smoke = unburnt fuel. I had this once when the 2 solenoids on my 97 carb were stuck. Hi Shogun, thank you so much for the reply. I had not seen black smoke, but this morning before driving I wanted to answer your question and so I weighed down my gas pedal in the driveway, walked around and sure enough, up above idle it produces plenty of rich black smoke! I watched a video you posted of someone checking their carb solenoid- I'm guessing what it showed was a solenoid gone bad. I'm hoping to take a look at mine this week- will post updates!
use the forum search with solenoid valves shogun and reduce the search to Honda and you find more threads about this, for example here pics of the sloenoids and the part numbers https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/poor-running-acty.15862/#post-93487 They can be removed easy from the carbs and tested, just use a 12V battery and touch with the 2 wires the plus and minus and you should here a clicking sound and the inner parts moving, otherwise the valves are stuck.
