What size tires and what rims you using?

The stock rims that came with my S83P and Carlisle All Trails 23 x 8 x 12. I installed Afco springs on it. Oh, it has drum brakes on the front. Most of the parts places list pads for the 1990 S83P. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

  3. Has the vehicle been lifted at all? I had a 3.5" lift kit for the front of the truck but I thought it was too much. I ended up cutting the pieces apart and cutting it down to become a 2" lift kit. I still have tire rubbing sometimes when turning the wheel but when the wheels are straight, clearance is good unless I hit a good size bump.

  5. The finish on the newly installed front bumper is very white, a lot brighter than the existing paint. I haven't taken the time to paint the black recesses yet. I'm not sure if I will. The four screws at the top of the bumper are in place but fitting the three screws along the bottom is going to be a problem. The old screws and the holes are rusted enough that they don't fit properly. I found a screw that would fit the middle bottom of the bumper but I had to re-thread the hole. I think I'm going to have to do the same thing with the two screws at the bottom corners.

I have new bulbs in place for the headlights, marker lights inside the headlight housings, corner bulbs and turn signals. My turn signals are fast so I'm going to have to install resistors as well.

So a few things have happened. Transmission on my 660cc got issues. Free moves on gears 1 to 4. Gears 5 and reverse feel like blocked off. Instead of a new stock transmission, going with plans for a 13B Mazda rotary swap I've been wanting to do for some time.

A shop will be doing it as I go on deployment soon. Pretty much now the engine/trans is out, which I'll sell later, and its just mocking up. Then all the fabbing will start later.

Going fuel injection I think, small turbo, and maybe a aftermarket fuel tank with baffles.

I feel like this thread is dying so I'm putting some energy back into it. I recently acquired a 1991 Hijet and I gotta say, I was surprised when it arrive on how clean it was. Buying sight unseen is nerve racking as hell. So far I've done an oil change and all filters, in the process of replacing fuel lines and vacuum hoses, and the coolest thing I came across was purchasing a brand new alternator off Ebay for 80 bucks that was advertised as a Cub Cadet Tractor alternator but referenced the part number on my alternator. Gave it a shot and ordered it and it was an exact match. Now Im charging right where I should be and after I have the original rebuilt, I will have a spare. Ohh, just got in some new front struts, now getting ready to purchase 250lb Afco's and shackle lift!

This is a real good thread but I think it would be better for people in the future if it was in the Daihatsu section. That's where I go when looking for info for my Daihatsu,I wonder if one of the mods could move it,I don't think the op can.

Until about August. Sorry for the late reply, I am terrible for keeping up to date. I'll put a few more here.

So far, the mechanic has a mockup of the spare rx7 transmission and engine there. Back of the cab was cut higher to help with ground clearance so the engine can sit higher.

Also, the Rx7 that will be helping in this magic.

This is actually a area for any type of kei trucks. Just so happens lots own Hijet myself included lol

Nice and clean truck! Back when I was getting a stock engine and was looking at driveshaft joints, the one that fit was for some tractor. So it has tractor stuff in it lol

Thanks! Tonight I just realized my engine access hatch is rusted severely where the gasket goes. Do mes anyone know what that part is called so o can search for one?

No, not off the top off my head. You might actually be able to cut and make your own with a gasket kit. Or delete it entirely, treat the rust, and paint like bedliner or something in its place. Gasket kit might be the better of the two.

That's actually not a bad idea. But if I remove the gasket and treat the rust, there won't be anything left for me to reattach the gasket to, it's pretty bad. Luckily there's no rust anywhere else. I was going to roll on bed liner anyways and that would help to fill the gap there. Plus, I'm going to install a truck box there so I dont even really need it. Thanks for the tip.

Ah, so it's bad rust then that's been rusting through? Ive driven without one before, but just on a sunny day. You could try most Japanese truck dealers and see if they have OEM replacements if it is that bad. Or make your own with sheet metal.

Nice on the truck box. You pulling anything like this? Lol I kid...

Wow!! haha. No, nothing like that:) Yes it has eaten away to the point the metal under the seal as I gently pry back on it appears to be dust. If I pull the seal off, enough metal will flake off that reattaching the seal would not be possible. My truck stays in my shop 99% of the time and I really only use it when I'm working outside maintaining my property or cruising to a friends house. Since those activities are rarely when its raining, I should be good by just removing it and installing my truck box. Of course, if I could find one for 50 bucks in good condition I would do so but you know that aint happening... lol

Ah lol. Yea you should be fine. Yea the funny thing I've found when driving without a hood is the faster I go on the highway, the colder the engine temperature gauge gets haha! Other then that, its fun to sometimes go around hoodless because most people dont know the engine is there.

Nice. I think I'm about to get some Carlisle Tru Power 6-12's and throw em on my stock wheels. I'm in Florida and don't feel like legalizing it so Ill be on dirt road only... Should be good.

Off road tires? I forget the company of my last tires (which were street tires), but I had them stretched to fit onto the rim.

Apparently people haven't been doing things to their trucks... So going to bring this back from the dead with an update for my own.

The na 13B rotary and RX7 transmission is in the truck... and from what I see from the mechanic working the magic while I slave away at work, is mostly wired in. To make room, the seat had to go up 3-4 inches. So this is his progress on the removeable framework under the seat that will end up also having heat shielding so people won't burn their bums.

All I have, so enjoy :D

Look into tipping your steering wheel forward. I did it to my hijet so I can get out and in easier

It already was adjusted lol. (Edit: At least he said it was, looking in the pictures now I don't think so. But if it is in the end, it would help more) Stock wheel is still practically in your lap. Original and still happening idea is to use the removable one from the RX7. Raises it, is a tad smaller so not pressed up against you, and can take off to get out. I got in and it was not in the way at all. Raised in the seat however, you have more of a feeling you are in a small sports car with a low roof as it is about 5 inches from the top of my head. Though if I sit completely rigid and upright on the seat frame when it has a board on it, my head can touch the top. Planning on lowering the seating on the sides to have more room I believe the mechanic plans on doing.

The RX7 front and the rear wheels and suspension are mocked up now. Got independent coilover suspension in the rear now thanks to that. And with a dummy driveshaft it can start up (all by the key) and roll the rear wheels. Still straight piped exhaust, but I had bought dual Magnaflow exhausts to help with that.

Will post pictures... but anyone know how to post Facebook videos on here? If not it just is the links then right? Videos are on the shop's public FB page so will post a link to it all you guys can watch if able.

This is the page with all the videos... hopefully it works and you all can hear that lovely screaming rumble until the exhaust gets built! https://www.facebook.com/jrodsgarage02/

Finally finished my Hecruliner DIY bed liner project. The plan is to actually paint the entire truck with gun metal grey bedliner. I bought the tintable kit from Raptor (spray on) but decided to do the bed in black and went with the roll on kit. $89 bucks at the auto parts store. About 2 hours of prep, and another hour per coat. image1.jpeg image2.jpeg

Wasn't what I did to my truck, but what I did to my steel shed. Remodeled it. Wider doors, sealed the roof, ripped out the floor and put down some limestone.

Need to add some sand to the bed tomorrow to get the weight distribution balanced back to 50/50.

Looking at your pictures, I noticed your roof rack. Can you give me info on it? I want to add one to mine to mount a couple of lights on.

I got mine through Rakuten... if you look through, you'll see ones similar to what I have. Or there are others. They don't have a lot of weight capacity to them but they are good for a spare tire, and a jack stand or two.
