Hi all, I have 97 standard minicab, live in winnipeg so block heater is a must for winter, was wondering if someone could help me with where I should place it and what kind of heater I should use.

I just put one in mine last week. a 1 inch coolant heater put in the lower rad hose. around $50 from Napa. I'm pretty sure it was called Sure Start 120 Volt. the reason I went with a coolant heater is because those sticky pads you can buy for your oil pan will kill your oil. Leaving sludge deposits that will circulate in your engine.

As an old fleet mechanic, I fully agree with Tony Evers. I used the coolant heaters on everything from large Diesels on down to Yard Donkey's, Trenchers and such. The heating pads will definately ruin your oil from being overly hot in just one small area.

Hello Fred, funny but your the fellow I got the information from, in the first place. about a year ago you posted something regarding heating pads on the oil pan. I had one when I read your post. The next day I confirmed your opinion with another mechanic and ripped mine off that day. So Thanks

More than Welcome. Glad that somebody was able to gain a bit from what I have learned over the years(some learned from the school of hard knocks). If more people realized just what they are doing to the oil, I think the manufacturers of those heating pads would be out of business. Now that I'm old, retired and living in the Philippines, I don't have to be concerned with such things anymore as it very rarely gets below about 70 degrees here.
