Mits U14L Transmission and Hydraulic dump issues.

My truck is a U14L 3G81 with 3spd trans. Hydraulic scissor lift and dump.
I have check the manuals that Dan has posted and couldn't find what i was looking for.

Pulled the trans out and it had no oil in it. the bearing on the input shaft was in pieces. there are also some teeth missing on the gear selectors. I'd like to unlock the 4th gear. Wondering if i'd be able to do that by ordering the gear from a 4spd because the one in mine just isn't cut. Would it be worth it rebuilding this trans or just finding a 4spd ready to go.

2nd problem is the hydraulic. the solenoid which i believe controls the flow of fluid wouldn't do anything when i applied power to it. so decided to tear it apart, while i was removing it i noticed that someone has been inside it before. inside the manifold was a cone spring and a small rod just sitting there. So i'm not sure how its supposed to go back together.[IMG]

well i think i have the solenoid figured out. the 3 small parts on the left go in the solenoid. that cone spring i'm not sure on. i'm missing like a cylinder or something to go into the right hole on the block which i believe would control the flow of fluid when the solenoid is activated. hoping someone can help me figure out where to get the parts i'm missing for this.

A hydraulics shop may be able to help you out on that, I'd bet hydro solenoids are all pretty similar. Something like a Power Drives or a Parker-Hanifan store.

On the trans, VERY interested to see what 4th gear really looks like and if I could tear mine down and cut the missing teeth to engage, or what part may be orderable. My motor smokes horribly but has enough power that 4th would be useful even before I solve the motor rebuild issue.

yeah i've kinda came to the conclusion that they only way to get the parts for my pump is to find a hydraulic shop like you stated and see if they can come up with something. I did how ever find Japanese part numbers on that exact pump. problem is that block that i'm need the part for only comes attached to the new pump and cant get it separate. Also i'm not spending over $2k for for a pump when the truck didn't cost near that.

I'd really be thankful if someone could remove their solenoid to show me what the parts inside that hydraulic block look like.

Heres a pic of what I believe is the 4th gear.

Might want to start watching "govlquidators" and "gsa" surplus auctions. The USA GOV. bought a ton of these Mitsubishi trucks many yrs. ago and they come up on the auction block couple times a year.
Sourcing parts for these trucks in the open market is going to be hard. The only place I know you might get ready parts is Magic Valley Mini Trucks in Idaho 208-944-3214. Her prices arent the best but she is the only game in town for these older left hand drive USA marketed trucks as far as I know.

Go to "suzuki.epcdata.ru/carry/" and dig around to see if you can match up with anything there. That should get you a useable part number for a 4th gear with teeth. You may even find a breakdown of your hydraulic system. Then you can order direct from "jp-carparts.com" . I don't know if this will work for you but that is how I have to get parts to me in the Philippines, they say they ship worldwide so should be able to ship to you. May cost a bit but you will have what you need in very short order( I get my stuff in 3 days after they receive payment). I pay them using Western Union.

Did you ever get 4th gear figured out? And was urs a mitsubishi with the 3g81?

well I haven't gotten 4th gear figured out. But my trans was pretty beat up from when I bought it and ran it with no oil. My brother brought me a box with a trans in pieces and I put mine back together with good parts. Cleaned the carb again and fired right up. I'm still looking for 4th gear. It'd be pretty simple to put back in. Also I haven't found parts for my hydraulic pump yet either.
My main concern now is my temp and fuel gauge aren't doing anything. I'm going to look it over again tomorrow but I think I have a ground missing somewhere. Everything else electrical works.

As you suspect, the fuel & heat gauge issue is more than likely a ground issue. Many years ago I chased this problem on a Chevvy S-10 and found a grounding lug near the bottom of the windshield post had a loose screw, tightened it and problem disappeared.
As a suggestion, if you have extra parts for the trans - could you take the extra blank 4th gear piece to a machine shop and have them cut teeth in it? In the pic it looks like all it needs is teeth cut in it, the synchro ring is already there. Sometime back I suggested going to "suzuki.epidata.ru/carry/" to find part #s, you can also go to "www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dyla-avtomobilej' to find some good parts breakdowns.

@Ronin in that transmission picture above the piece I'm pointing at is 4th gear. The brass looking piece behind it is the syncro. The input shaft and 4th gear cut or not cut is one solid piece. I'm looking to either find someone to cut it or find a input shaft that has 4th already cut.

    Ahh... OK.

The one the arrow is pointing at is the 4th gear but has no teeth, it should be cut like 3rd gear on the other side of the slider gear. You say you are looking for an input shaft already cut, this is wrong. The input shaft ends at the gear that drives the countershaft. There will be a pocket bearing there that the output shaft pilots into just like the pilot bearing on the clutch setup. The 4th gear should be internally splined so it will slide on and drive the output shaft as it meshes with the last gear on the countershaft. All you actually need is the 4th gear or disassemble the one in the pic and have teeth cut on it to match the internal teeth on the 3/4 slider gear. Either way, you will have to take it down in order to install the 4th gear on the output shaft.

    Fred.
So I have had this transmission completely apart. And put back together with the best parts I had on hand. When I had all the gears apart the 4th gear(not cut) and the input shaft seemed to be one solid piece but I could be wrong. I have another trans that I used for swapping the bad parts out. I will look at that gear and input shaft tomorrow a little better just to make sure. I'll throw some pictures up too.
On another note I've got the truck running pretty good now and all of a sudden my temp and fuel guage started working this morning. It rained last night so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Sounds like you do have an intermittent ground problem with the gauge cluster. Look around for a grounding lug in the area under the dash.

The countershaft should be one piece but the gears and the slider mechanisms along with the brass rings and all HAS to be removeable from the mainshaft in order to enable different gears as some parts are splined onto the mainshaft and some parts ride on roller bearings on the mainshaft. The Input shaft and the Mainshaft are inline but have to be separated with a pilot bearing, they are rotationally locked together when in 4th gear(direct input to output). www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya-actomobilej/suzuki/carry-every-1873/da62v-3384/epaf-k5-64035/mt-transmission-gear-473027 is an example of what i am saying. This is the trans in my van, a 5 spd, but if you look closely at the breakdown you will see.

Next day Edit: Should have mentioned, in the breakdown I referenced, Item # 1 is the input shaft and #2 is the bearing that you only have the race left in your pic. If the input shaft seems to be solid with the mainshaft, then it has probably got so hot that it has destroyed and welded the pocket bearing solid.
