heat

I have a 93 Sambar and the heater in it does not seem to be putting out too much heat. It takes a long time for the cab to warm up and when I put my hand up to the windshield defrost vent there does not seem to be a strong flow of air. My fan only works on high and I understand I need to replace the heater resister so I can have low and medium fan settings as well as high. My Daihatsu van's interior warms up faster than the Subaru does. Is this normal for the Subaru or do I have a problem with my heater as well.

Have you checked the coolant level? I ran my sambar low once, and I lost heat from my heater. Also there is an air bleeding procedure that may be worth a try. saw it somewhere on here.

    1. Make sure you have enough coolant (like Mylanman said).
    2. Make sure that both levers for heat control and vent type are set to the far right position (the heat only comes through on the settings with the defrost symbol)
    3. Keep in mind that the heat is coming from the rear engine through exposed pipes to the front cab, if it's a cold day it can take a while for the heat to get there (but if it's warmer than -15C it should eventually get toasty warm). I've run my Sambar when it was -37C, it never got hot but was much nicer inside than out!

If the above doesn't do the trick:
    1. Your temperature slider may be gummed up. If the resistor contacts on the temp slider control are corroded it may not be making good contact (it sounds like you need to replace the heater controls anyways)
    2. Your thermostat on the engine isn't working and isn't sending hot coolant to the cab. Supposedly you can test these in a boiling pot of water, google will show you how.
