Hello All, I'm about to pick up one of the illusive '84 SanFu tomorrow and plan on towing it 80+ miles home. The question I have is would I be able to use a Harbor Freight tow bar on it or should I put it in a U-haul trailer? Any suggestions would be welcome! I will try to post pics of it soon. Thanks in advance!
Managed to get it home in one piece. I think trailering it was the best choice. Was a bit hard to get off the trailer as the brakes/bearings had probably been frozen in the "on" position for a while It's got a propane setup right now but I'd like to go gas on in it instead, is there a carb that may work as a "bolt on"?
Congrats on the "new" truck. Probably a good idea not towing it with locked brakes. I can't help with the propane conversion, but every time I pass someone in my Sambar I say they "got Sanfuu'd" (for being passed by such a small truck).
Thanks for the reply Spike! Are you running propane? If not what type of carb are you running? Thanks! I'm looking forward to blasting around in it soon. I laugh every time I see it parked in my back yard. It's like, "what the..? Oh yeah, that's the SanFu!" It's like a little puppy that pops out from behind the bush. I've got a friend of mine that just got back from Japan that ordered me a Keitora magazine, I'm pretty pumped about that. On to getting it up and running again!
I've got a supercharged model, so it's fuel injected gasoline. I was parked next to a bright red Ferrari once (pretty rare in Alberta) and people were looking at my truck instead!
Supercharged??! Sweet!!! I love it when people appreciate something truly unique. One other question, if you don't mind. Do you know if the doors are interchangeable? At the moment I have the two bars across the door openings. I think I've seen pics of a SanFu with full doors on it. I suppose I could make my own but that may take a bit of time.
You should be able to find doors off a similar year truck. Do you have pictures of the "two bars"? That doesn't sound like a stock option. http://www.japanese-trucks.com/galleries/img1562.htm
This is a pic of it "flying thru the air" you should be able to see the two bars where the doors should be. Are there any good sources for spares in Vancouver BC? I see more Sambars for sale than here in Washington state.
That "door" definitely looks custom. I would suggest contacting your importer along with several import places in Vancouver. I doubt there'd be any of these as part trucks in North America, but you might luck out with someone who's got a parts yard in Japan (if they can stuff the doors into an existing shipment, it shouldn't cost too much either).
